This lesson focuses on understanding, distinguishing, and applying knowledge about the classification of living beings into animals, plants, and fungi.

Objectives

  1. Understand the Classification of Living Beings: Students should be able to identify and describe the three fundamental types of living beings: animals, plants, and fungi. They should understand the basic characteristics that distinguish each type.

    • Scenario 1: "Imagine you are in a forest and come across a tall, green plant. You also see a variety of small, colorful mushrooms growing at the base of the plant. How would you classify these living beings? Why?"

    • Scenario 2: "Now, imagine you are at the beach and see a crab scuttling across the sand. Nearby, you find a piece of driftwood covered in moss. How would you classify these living beings? Why?"

  3. Contextualization: Explain the importance of living being classification in understanding and preserving biodiversity. Highlight how this knowledge is essential for various areas such as ecology, medicine, and agriculture.

  1. Theory: Classification of Living Beings (10 - 12 minutes):

    • Definition and Importance: Start by explaining that the classification of living beings is a way of organizing and understanding the diversity of life on Earth. Emphasize that this classification helps scientists communicate and share information about different species.

    • Three Fundamental Types: Present the three fundamental types of living beings: animals, plants, and fungi. Explain that each type has distinct characteristics and functions that allow them to be easily identified.

      • Animals: Describe that animals are generally mobile, feed on other living beings, and have complex organs and systems. Provide examples of different animal species to illustrate these characteristics.

      • Plants: Explain that plants are usually fixed in one place, produce their own food through photosynthesis, and have a simple cellular structure. Show examples of different plant species to illustrate these characteristics.

      • Fungi: Describe that fungi are usually immobile, absorb nutrients from other living beings or the environment, and have a unique cellular structure. Provide examples of different fungal species to illustrate these characteristics.

    • Importance of Classification: Conclude the theoretical part by emphasizing that the classification of living beings is essential for understanding biodiversity, preserving ecosystems, and studying evolution.

  2. Practice: Identification of Living Beings (10 - 13 minutes):

    • Activity 1 - Classification of Living Beings: Divide the class into small groups and provide each group with a set of cards with images of different living beings (animals, plants, and fungi). Instruct them to classify the images into three groups: animals, plants, and fungi. Encourage them to discuss the characteristics of each living being and justify their classification choices.

    • Activity 2 - Identification in Nature: If possible, take the class to an outdoor area where they can observe different living beings. Instruct students to identify and classify the observed living beings. They can draw or write down their observations in a notebook.

    • Activity 3 - Classification Game: Create a memory game with cards depicting different living beings. Divide the class into teams and have them play the game. When a team finds a pair of cards, they must correctly classify the depicted living beings. The team with the most correct classifications at the end of the game wins.
