Lesson Activities

Introduction (10 minutes)
- Brief review of gender concepts and equality.
- Presentation of the topic with a thought-provoking question: "Why do most sports have male and female categories? Shouldn't everyone be able to compete in the same category?"

Theory (15 minutes)
- Presentation of a brief history of gender equity in sport.
- Discussion of current gender equity issues in sport, both globally and in South Africa.
- Introduction of concepts such as Title IX (USA), the Women's Sports Foundation, and the South African Women's Sports Foundation.

Practical Activity (15 minutes)
- Students will be divided into groups. Each group will receive a case study related to gender equity issues in sport.
- Groups will discuss their case study and prepare a presentation on the issue, the impact, and possible solutions.
- Each group will then present their findings to the class.

- After all presentations, facilitate a group discussion on the findings and solutions proposed by each group.
