Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

This stage of the lesson plan is crucial for establishing the foundations of knowledge that students must have for the efficient use of writing. By defining clear objectives, students and the teacher can focus on the essential skills that will be developed and improved during the lesson, ensuring that all participants are aligned with learning expectations. Through the objectives, the goal is to provide a structure that guides the practical and theoretical activities of the lesson, maximizing the use of time and available resources.

Main Objectives:

1. Recognize and identify all the letters of the alphabet.

2. Develop the ability to write paragraphs correctly, considering the introduction, development, and conclusion.

3. Understand and apply different text formats, such as narrative, descriptive, and informative.

Side Objectives:

  1. Encourage creativity and personal expression through writing.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The introductory stage serves to engage students with the content they have studied previously, using problem situations that compel them to apply knowledge practically. Furthermore, it contextualizes the importance of writing in daily life and in broader situations, such as professional and social settings, encouraging students to recognize the utility and relevance of what they learn. This approach aims to prepare students for the practical activities that will follow, connecting theoretical content with its real application.

Problem-Based Situations

1. Ask students to write a paragraph describing their favorite pet, using as many letters of the alphabet as possible.

2. Request that students create a shopping list for a birthday party, organizing the items into descriptive and informative paragraphs.

Contextualization

Explain the importance of knowing how to write correctly and in an organized manner, using everyday examples such as writing messages to friends or taking notes in notebooks. Show how writing can help express ideas clearly and effectively. Additionally, briefly relate how writing is used in different contexts, such as in books, newspapers, and the internet, to inform, entertain, and educate.

Development

Duration: (75 - 85 minutes)

The purpose of this phase of the lesson plan is to allow students to apply the studied concepts about writing practically and playfully. The proposed activities aim to reinforce the recognition of the letters of the alphabet, the ability to structure coherent paragraphs, and the skill to format different types of texts. Additionally, it seeks to promote collaboration among students and encourage creativity and critical thinking through fun and challenging tasks.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended to carry out only one of the suggested activities

Activity 1 - Letter Treasure Hunt

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Recognize and memorize the letters of the alphabet in a fun context and apply the knowledge in writing short texts.

- Description: In this activity, students will participate in a 'treasure hunt' within the classroom, where they will have to find clues leading to hidden letters. Each clue contains a letter of the alphabet. After collecting all the letters, students should organize them to form simple words and then use these words in small paragraphs that tell a story.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Explain that they will have to find clues hidden around the room that contain letters of the alphabet.

  • Each solved clue will give them a letter.

  • After collecting all the letters, students must form words and then create a short paragraph that uses these words in a coherent story.

  • The paragraphs will be read to the class at the end of the activity.

Activity 2 - The Supermarket of Words

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Learn to organize information in lists and write descriptive paragraphs coherently and grammatically correctly.

- Description: Students will simulate assembling a shopping list for a supermarket, but with the additional task of writing small descriptive paragraphs for each item on the list, correctly utilizing the words and their respective grammatical categories.

- Instructions:

  • Organize the students into groups of up to 5.

  • Distribute cards with names of supermarket items and their respective grammatical categories (noun, adjective, etc.).

  • Students should assemble a shopping list and for each item, write a small paragraph that describes it and justifies their choice.

  • Each group will present their list and paragraphs to the class at the end of the activity.

Activity 3 - Word Drama

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop creative writing skills and lexical understanding, as well as promote student confidence and oral expression.

- Description: Using cards with words, students will create small plays where each word must be used in a dialogue, encouraging fluency in writing and understanding the use of words in different contexts.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the room into groups of no more than 5 students.

  • Each group receives a set of cards with words.

  • Students must use all the words on the cards in a dialogue that will form part of a small play.

  • The dialogues must be written and rehearsed, and then presented to the class.

  • Discussion about how the words were used and the impact on the meaning of the scenes.

Feedback

Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)

This feedback stage aims to consolidate the learning acquired during the practical activities. By discussing in groups, students have the opportunity to verbalize and reflect on what they performed, which facilitates the retention of knowledge. Additionally, this discussion allows the teacher to assess students' understanding of the topic and identify possible points for review or deepening in future lessons.

Group Discussion

At the end of the activities, gather all the students for a group discussion. Initiate the discussion with a general review of the activities carried out, asking students what they liked most about doing and what they found most challenging. Encourage them to share their experiences and what they learned during the activities. Use guiding questions to foster conversation, such as 'What was the most fun part of the activity for you?' or 'What did you discover about writing that you didn't know before?'

Key Questions

1. What were the main difficulties encountered when writing the paragraphs and how did you overcome them?

2. How does organizing letters into words and paragraphs facilitate text comprehension?

3. Was there any word or letter of the alphabet that you found more difficult to use? Why?

Conclusion

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The purpose of this conclusion stage is to ensure that students have a clear and consolidated understanding of the content covered in the lesson, as well as recognizing its applicability in the real world. By summarizing and recapping, the teacher reinforces the learning and prepares students for future applications of knowledge in varied contexts, emphasizing the importance of what has been learned and motivating students to continue improving their writing skills.

Summary

To conclude, the teacher should summarize the main points discussed and learned during the lesson, reinforcing the importance of recognizing and correctly using the letters of the alphabet, forming words, and structuring paragraphs. It is essential to recap the activities carried out, such as the 'Letter Treasure Hunt', the 'Supermarket of Words', and the 'Word Drama', highlighting what each contributed to the development of students' writing skills.

Theory Connection

During the lesson, the connection between theory and practice was evidenced through interactive activities that allowed students to apply theoretical knowledge in a playful and contextualized manner. The theory about the structure of paragraphs and texts was practiced in real-life situations, such as in creating narrative and descriptive texts, reinforcing understanding and the importance of clarity in writing.

Closing

Finally, the teacher should emphasize the relevance of writing in daily life, explaining how the skills developed are applicable in various situations, from school essays to everyday communications, such as messages and emails. This reflection helps students recognize the practical utility of what they learned and the importance of communicating clearly and effectively.
