Objectives

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

The purpose of this stage of the Socioemotional Lesson Plan is to contextualize students on the theme 'Community: Time and Space'. By describing the objectives, the aim is to encourage students to reflect on the transformations and dynamics occurring in their surroundings. This stage is essential to prepare students to observe and analyze changes in the community, promoting comparison and critical skills, which are essential for cognitive and socioemotional development.

Main Goals

1. Identify and describe the changes that have occurred in the community over time.

2. Compare different locations within the community in relation to their characteristics and functions.

Introduction

Duration: 10 - 15 minutes

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation: Focus on the Community

The proposed emotional warm-up activity is a Guided Meditation. This practice is a meditation technique where the teacher guides students through a series of instructions to help them relax and focus. Guided meditation helps to increase students' concentration, presence, and focus, mentally and emotionally preparing them for the lesson.

1. Ask the students to sit comfortably in their chairs, with their feet flat on the ground and their hands resting on their knees.

2. Suggest they close their eyes or maintain a soft gaze at a fixed point in front of them.

3. Instruct them to start breathing deeply, inhaling through the nose and exhaling through the mouth, slowly and control.

4. Guide the students to focus on the sensation of breathing, feeling the air entering and leaving their lungs.

5. After a few moments, begin to guide the meditation: 'Imagine you are walking through your community. Observe the places around you, the people you encounter, the changes you notice. Feel calm and curious as you mentally explore these spaces.'

6. Continue guiding them for a few more minutes, encouraging them to notice specific details, such as colors, sounds, and smells.

7. Slowly, bring the students' attention back to the classroom, asking them to lightly move their fingers and toes.

8. Finally, ask them to open their eyes and take a deep breath once more, feeling present and focused.

Content Contextualization

📚 Content Contextualization with Emotional Focus 📚

To engage students in the theme 'Community: Time and Space', start by telling a story or sharing an interesting fact about the history of the local community. For example, you might talk about how the neighborhood has changed over the years, highlighting old and new buildings, changes in vegetation, and infrastructures. This helps students notice that the community is constantly evolving and that they are a part of this transformation.

Explain how each location in a community has its own history and function. For example, a square may have once been an important meeting point in the past and now serves as a leisure space for families and children. By contextualizing in this way, students are encouraged to develop social awareness and empathy for the diverse aspects and people that make up the community, as well as enhance their social skills by sharing and discussing these observations.

Exploring the Community

Students will be divided into small groups and will virtually walk through the community using old and recent maps or photos. Each group will analyze the changes that have occurred in different locations of the community over time. Afterwards, each group will present their findings to the class.

1. Divide students into small groups of 3 to 4 members.

2. Distribute maps or old and recent photos of the community to each group.

3. Ask the groups to identify and note the changes that have occurred in different locations (for example, a square, a school, a street).

4. Guide students to discuss how these changes have impacted the community and the people living in it.

5. Each group should prepare a presentation of 3 to 5 minutes to share their findings with the class.

6. Encourage the groups to use posters, drawings, or models to illustrate the changes observed.

Group Discussion

🗣️ Discussion and Socioemotional Feedback 🗣️

After the presentations, initiate a guided discussion using the RULER method:

Recognize: Ask students how they felt while exploring the changes in the community. Encourage them to recognize the emotions that arose during the activity.

Understand: Discuss the causes and consequences of the changes observed. How did these changes impact the lives of people in the community?

Name: Help students correctly name the emotions. For example, they might have felt surprise, nostalgia, or curiosity.

Express: Guide students to express their emotions appropriately, respecting their peers' opinions.

Regulate: Teach emotional regulation techniques, such as deep breathing, to help students cope with intense emotions that may have arisen during the activity.

Conclude the discussion by highlighting the importance of understanding and respecting diverse perspectives within a community, promoting empathy and social awareness.

Conclusion

Duration: 15 - 20 minutes

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

📘 Reflection and Emotional Regulation Activity 📘

Propose to students a written reflection activity or a group discussion about the challenges they faced during the lesson and how they managed their emotions. For example, ask students to write a paragraph about a change in the community that emotionally impacted them and how they dealt with those feelings. Alternatively, lead a group discussion where students can share their experiences and emotional regulation strategies used during the lesson.

Objective: The objective of this activity is to encourage students to practice self-assessment and emotional regulation. By reflecting on the challenges faced during the lesson, students can identify effective strategies to deal with challenging situations, promoting greater self-knowledge and self-control. This practice helps strengthen students' ability to recognize, understand, name, express, and regulate their emotions, aligning with the RULER method.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

🔮 Ending Activity and Looking to the Future 🔮

To conclude the lesson, encourage students to set personal and academic goals related to the content discussed. Explain the importance of establishing clear and realistic goals that can be achieved in the short and long term. This can be done through an activity where students write two personal goals and two academic goals they wish to achieve, related to understanding changes in the community and applying the socioemotional skills learned.

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Personal Goal: Observe and record changes in a specific location in the community over the coming weeks.

2. Personal Goal: Practice empathy and understanding the stories of family members or neighbors about the community.

3. Academic Goal: Create a small visual project (drawing, poster, or model) that illustrates a significant change in the community.

4. Academic Goal: Actively participate in classroom discussions about the importance of changes in the community and their consequences. Objective: The objective of this activity is to strengthen students' autonomy and the practical application of learning. By setting personal and academic goals, students are encouraged to continue developing their skills and knowledge about the community, as well as practicing socioemotional competencies continuously. This approach aims to promote meaningful and lasting learning, preparing students to face future challenges with more confidence and resilience.
