Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

This stage of the lesson plan aims to establish the central objectives that will guide all proposed activities. By clearly defining what is expected to be achieved, students will have a precise understanding of what they need to focus on during practical classroom activities. The identification and use of pronouns are fundamental skills for constructing cohesive and coherent texts, a crucial aspect for both understanding and producing effective texts.

This paves the way for a deeper and more applied understanding during practical activities.

1. Imagine you are reading a book and you come across this sentence: 'João went to Pedro's house to return a book to him.' - Why did the author use 'to him' instead of 'to Pedro'? How does this help in understanding the story?

2. Think of a real situation where someone is telling a story and repeats the name of the person they are talking to several times. How could the use of pronouns make this conversation smoother and more interesting?

Contextualization

Pronouns are like bridges in a text, connecting ideas and characters so that reading is smoother and more pleasant. For example, in news articles, when referring to a person mentioned earlier, it is common to use pronouns to avoid excessive repetition of names. Interestingly, in some languages, such as Japanese, pronouns are used much less frequently than in Portuguese, which can make reading translations into those languages a challenge for those who are not used to that style.

Development

Duration: (75 - 85 minutes)

The development phase is designed to allow students to practically and interactively apply their prior knowledge about pronouns. Through playful and contextualized activities, students will have the chance to solidify their understanding of the use of pronouns as cohesive elements in texts, while also developing teamwork, creativity, and verbal expression skills. By choosing one of the proposed activities, the teacher can adapt the lesson to better meet the needs and learning styles of their class.

- Objective: Reinforce the recognition and correct use of pronouns in different contexts, promoting interaction and teamwork.

- Description: In this playful activity, students will participate in a treasure hunt in the classroom, where the treasure consists of pronouns hidden in various places. Each group will receive a map containing clues leading to locations where envelopes with cut-out pronouns from various texts are hidden. Each envelope contains a challenge to correctly use the pronoun in a sentence.

- Instructions:

• Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

• Distribute the maps with clues to each group.

• Guide students to follow the clues to find the hidden envelopes.

• Each envelope contains a challenge to use the correct pronoun in a sentence.

• Students must use the found pronouns to complete the activity in their notebooks.

• At the end, each group presents a well-constructed sentence using one of the found pronouns and justifies their choice.

Activity 2 - Story Builders

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the ability to construct cohesive and fluent texts using pronouns appropriately, while also promoting creativity and verbal expression.

- Description: Students, in groups, will receive cards with different pronouns and will be challenged to construct a coherent and cohesive story, correctly using the provided pronouns. Each group will present their story to the class.

- Instructions:

• Form groups of up to 5 students.

• Distribute cards with various pronouns to each group.

• Each group must write a story that includes all the pronouns from the cards, in logical order.

• The groups share their stories with the class, highlighting the use of pronouns to maintain cohesion and avoid excessive repetition of names.

Activity 3 - Dramatizing with Pronouns

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Explore the practical use of pronouns in communication, especially in differentiating characters and constructing cohesive dialogues.

- Description: Using a simple script, students will create short theatrical plays in groups, where pronouns play a crucial role in the flow of dialogue and the clarity of the story. The plays will be presented to the class.

- Instructions:

• Divide students into groups of up to 5.

• Give each group a basic script that includes the use of different types of pronouns.

• Allow groups to practice the play, focusing on the correct use of pronouns.

• Each group presents their play to the class, which will observe the use of pronouns and their influence on the clarity of the story.
