KeywordsNarrative Construction, Emotional Contact, Beginning, Middle, and End, Science Fiction, Suspense and Mystery, Illustrated Stories, Creativity, Personal Expression, Dramatization, Critical Reflection, Engagement, Practical Application
Required MaterialsPaper, Colored pencils, Pens, Writing material, Computer or tablet (optional for digitizing the stories), Whiteboard, Markers

Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

This stage of the lesson plan is crucial for laying the foundations of what will be explored during the session. By clearly defining the objectives, the teacher guides students on what is expected of them to learn and practice. This helps maintain focus and direction in classroom activities, ensuring students are prepared to apply the concepts of narrative construction effectively and meaningfully.

Main Objectives:

1. Empower students to understand and apply the fundamental elements of a narrative, including introduction, development, and conclusion.

2. Develop the ability to create narratives that establish an emotional connection with the reader or listener.

Side Objectives:

  1. Encourage students' creativity and personal expression through the writing of narratives.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The introduction serves to engage students and make connections between the content they studied at home and the practical application in the classroom. Through problem situations, students are encouraged to think critically about how to apply narrative concepts in diverse and challenging contexts. The contextualization seeks to show the relevance and impact of narratives in everyday life, encouraging students to recognize the importance and ubiquity of this type of communication.

Problem-Based Situations

1. Imagine you are an explorer on an unknown planet. How would you describe your discoveries to people on Earth in a way that made them feel the same excitement as you?

2. Think of a secret that you keep very well. How would you tell this story to a friend so that they feel curious and emotionally involved with the outcome?

Contextualization

Narratives are not just tools for entertainment; they are essential in our lives. From the stories we tell about our day to great epics of literature, narratives shape our understanding of the world and the people around us. For example, the use of stories is common in advertising campaigns to capture the public's attention and in political speeches to influence opinions. Knowing how to construct an effective narrative can be a powerful skill in many real-life situations.

Development

Duration: (70 - 75 minutes)

The Development stage is designed for students to practically and creatively apply the narrative construction concepts they studied at home. By working in groups, they have the opportunity to collaborate, express themselves individually, and listen to different perspectives, which enriches learning. The choice of playful and engaging activities aims to make students feel motivated and engaged, effectively applying what they learned about creating narratives with beginnings, middles, and ends, and about emotional contact with the interlocutor.

Activity Suggestions

It is recommended to carry out only one of the suggested activities

Activity 1 - Adventure on Planet X

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop creative writing skills and narrative understanding by applying the concepts of beginning, middle, and end of a story.

- Description: Students, divided into groups of up to 5 people, are invited to create a science fiction narrative about a space expedition to an unknown planet. They must include elements of introduction, development, and conclusion, focusing on making the reader or listener feel the same curiosity and excitement as the explorers in the story.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group chooses a leader who will be the 'mission commander'.

  • The other group members take on the roles of different characters of the expedition: scientist, pilot, engineer, etc.

  • The group must develop the story of the expedition, including challenges, discoveries, and an exciting conclusion.

  • Students must write a draft of the story and then transform it into a small illustrated book, using materials available in the classroom such as paper, colored pencils, and pens.

Activity 2 - The Secret of the Enchanted Chest

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Stimulate creativity and the ability to maintain the reader's interest through well-constructed narrative elements.

- Description: In this activity, students form groups and create a story about a mysterious chest they found in the attic of an old house. The narrative must involve elements of suspense and mystery, captivating the reader's attention from the introduction to the conclusion.

- Instructions:

  • Form groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group receives a basic description of the chest: appearance, size, and location.

  • The students must decide who the characters are that find the chest and what secret it holds.

  • The story must be written in parts, with each group member contributing a section.

  • At the end, the groups present their stories to the class, using resources such as dramatization or reading aloud.

Activity 3 - The Great Mystery of the Secret Garden

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the ability to create and maintain suspense in a narrative and explore the importance of details in building a fictional environment.

- Description: Students, in groups, create a story about a hidden garden where magical things happen. The story should be rich in descriptive details and develop a mystery that unfolds captivatingly until the conclusion.

- Instructions:

  • Divide the class into groups of up to 5 students.

  • Each group is tasked with describing the secret garden, including plants, animals, and possible characters that could live there.

  • Students must develop a mystery involving the garden and its secrets.

  • Write the story in stages, ensuring each part contributes to the development of the mystery.

  • At the end, the groups present their stories, and the class votes on the one that captivated them the most.

Feedback

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The purpose of this stage of the lesson plan is to allow students to critically reflect on the narrative creation process and evaluate the effectiveness of their stories in achieving the goal of establishing an emotional connection with the reader. Through sharing and discussion, students can learn from each other, identify strengths and areas for development, and consolidate their understanding of how to build engaging and meaningful narratives.

Group Discussion

To initiate the group discussion, the teacher can ask each group to share their story with the class, highlighting the elements they considered most important in engaging the reader emotionally. Then, ask them to discuss as a large group how each story succeeded or failed to achieve this goal. To facilitate the discussion, the teacher can use a board to note key ideas or insights that arise during the conversation.

Key Questions

1. What elements of the narrative do you think were most effective in evoking emotions in readers?

2. How did you use the structure of beginning, middle, and end to maintain the reader's interest in the story?

3. Were there any challenges in trying to include emotional contact with the interlocutor in the narrative? How did you overcome that?

Conclusion

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The purpose of this stage of the lesson plan is to consolidate students' learning, ensuring they can link theory and practice and understand the applicability of narrative construction concepts in different contexts. Furthermore, the conclusion serves to reinforce the importance of the topic, encouraging students to recognize how the skills developed can be useful and impactful in their lives.

Summary

To conclude, the teacher should summarize the main concepts covered, reiterating the importance of a well-structured narrative that engages the reader emotionally. The elements of a good narrative, such as introduction, development, and conclusion, should be recapped, and how these components were explored in the practical activities.

Theory Connection

Today's lesson connected the theory about narratives, studied by students at home, with practice in the classroom through playful activities that allowed for direct application of the concepts. It was emphasized how the studied theory prepared students to create engaging and emotionally connected narratives.

Closing

Finally, the teacher should highlight the relevance of narrative construction skills in everyday life, showing how the ability to tell effective stories is valuable in various situations, from interpersonal communication to professional use in areas like marketing and entertainment.
