Objective

Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)

This stage aims to provide learners with a clear understanding of the lesson's objectives while fostering socioemotional skills. By examining the shifts in the job market due to technology, students will reflect on their emotions and develop essential skills to navigate today’s world consciously and responsibly.

Objective Utama

1. Understand the changes in the job market brought about by technological advancements.

2. Develop the capability to recognise and analyse emotions related to workplace changes.

3. Encourage responsible decision-making skills when navigating new technological landscapes.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

Emotional Warmup Activity

Mindfulness Moment

The selected emotional warm-up activity is Mindfulness. Mindfulness is a technique that helps learners focus on the present moment, enhancing awareness and reducing stress. This practice boosts concentration, mental clarity, and emotional regulation, critical for effective learning.

1. Ask students to settle comfortably in their chairs, feet flat on the floor and hands resting on their knees.

2. Instruct learners to gently close their eyes or maintain a soft gaze on a spot in front of them.

3. Guide them to take three deep breaths, inhaling through the nose and exhaling slowly through the mouth.

4. Encourage them to focus on their breathing, noticing the air entering and leaving their bodies.

5. Invite them to acknowledge any thoughts or feelings that arise without judgement, simply recognising them and letting them drift away, returning focus to their breath.

6. After a few minutes, instruct them to slowly open their eyes and bring their attention back to the room, feeling more present and alert.

Content Contextualization

We exist in a rapidly changing world where technology is reshaping the job market. These changes affect not only the skills needed but also the emotions and behaviours of individuals. For example, the rise of automation and artificial intelligence can spark anxiety regarding job stability but also excitement about new opportunities. Grasping these emotions is vital for making responsible decisions and cultivating socioemotional skills. By studying these technological shifts, we will learn how they're affecting our emotions and discover balanced ways to cope with these changes.

Duration: (60 - 75 minutes)

Theory Guide

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

1. ### Key Aspects of the Lesson Topic

2. Transformations in the Job Market: Discuss how the Industrial Revolution set off a series of changes in the job market, which continued with the Digital Revolution. Emphasise the rapid pace and scale of recent technological changes, such as automation and artificial intelligence.

3. Impact of Technology on Employment: Highlight how automation and AI have replaced certain functions while simultaneously creating new roles. Share examples like factory robots, the digitisation of admin tasks, and new careers in IT.

4. Changes in Required Skills: Cover how the skills needed in the job market have progressed. While technical skills are crucial, socioemotional skills such as communication, teamwork, and critical thinking have become equally significant.

5. Remote Work and Flexibility: Discuss the rise of remote work and flexible arrangements, which have gained traction during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mention examples of companies adopting hybrid or fully remote models and the benefits and challenges associated with them.

6. Socioemotional Impact of Changes: Review how technological transformations affect the emotional well-being of workers, including feelings of anxiety related to job security and excitement regarding new opportunities. Discuss how self-awareness and self-control can aid in managing these emotions.

Activity with Socioemotional Feedback

Duration: (35 - 45 minutes)

Exploring the Future of Work

In this activity, students will form groups to discuss and create presentations on how technological changes are impacting various sectors of the job market, focusing on the associated emotions and socioemotional skills.

1. Divide the class into groups of 4 to 5 learners.

2. Each group will pick a sector to research (e.g., healthcare, education, manufacturing, financial services).

3. Groups should investigate how technology has altered this sector, what jobs have been created or lost, and what skills are now needed.

4. Additionally, each group should identify the emotions these changes might evoke in workers and propose ways to manage these feelings using the RULER method.

5. Groups will prepare a 5-minute presentation to share their findings with the class.

Discussion and Group Feedback

Following the presentations, facilitate a group discussion using the RULER method to guide socioemotional feedback:

Recognise: Encourage learners to acknowledge and share their emotions experienced during discussions and presentations about the future of work. Prompt them to observe their peers' emotions during the presentations. Understand: Delve into the causes and effects of the identified emotions. For example, how does anxiety about automation affect motivation and performance in the workplace? Name: Help students accurately label the emotions discussed, like anxiety, excitement, fear, or hope. Express: Motivate learners to express their emotions appropriately, discussing ways these feelings can be communicated constructively in the workplace. Regulate: Explore strategies for managing emotions, such as mindfulness techniques, practising self-control skills, and building resilience in the face of technological change.

Conclusion

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

Reflection and Emotional Regulation

To facilitate reflection and emotion regulation, ask students to write a paragraph detailing the challenges they encountered during the lesson and how they managed their emotions. Alternatively, organise a small group discussion for learners to share their experiences. Encourage them to reflect on their learnings about themselves and others, and how these insights can be applied in their futures.

Objective: The goal of this section is to encourage self-assessment and emotion regulation, guiding students to identify effective strategies for navigating challenging situations. Reflecting on personal experiences and sharing with peers enhances self-awareness and understanding of emotions, as well as self-control and resilience skills.

Glimpse into the Future

To wrap up the lesson, invite students to establish personal and academic goals related to the topics covered. Clarify that these goals could involve developing new tech skills, seeking information about emerging careers, or practising the emotional regulation techniques discussed. Encourage students to write down their goals and share them with a peer to foster a sense of accountability and support.

Penetapan Objective:

1. Develop technical and socioemotional skills aligned with the needs of today’s job market.

2. Research and learn about new emerging careers within the technology space.

3. Practice emotional regulation techniques, like mindfulness, to boost well-being and resilience.

4. Create a study plan focused on areas of technological interest.

5. Participate in extracurricular activities linked to technology and innovation. Objective: This section aims to bolster student independence and the practical application of their learning, ensuring progression in both academic and personal development. By setting clear and attainable goals, students are encouraged to actively engage in their growth, both within the school and in the ever-evolving job market.
