Objective

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

This phase of the Socioemotional Lesson Plan aims to present learners with the objectives related to prepositions in English, emphasizing the importance of recognizing, understanding, and correctly employing these grammatical elements. Furthermore, it seeks to foster self-awareness and social consciousness by guiding students in identifying and managing their emotions during the learning journey.

Objective Utama

1. Identify the main prepositions in English and grasp their proper use in different contexts.

2. Cultivate the ability to distinguish and accurately use prepositions in sentences and texts, applying them appropriately.

Introduction

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

Emotional Warmup Activity

Deep Breathing for Focus and Concentration

The emotional warm-up activity is a Deep Breathing exercise designed to enhance focus, presence, and concentration among students. It includes clear steps on how to breathe deeply, aimed at helping students relax, feel grounded, and mentally prepared for the lesson ahead.

1. Ask students to close their eyes and sit comfortably in their chairs.

2. Explain that they will perform a series of deep breaths to help clear their minds and focus on the present moment.

3. Instruct students to inhale through their nose while counting to four, filling their lungs with air.

4. Ask them to hold their breath while counting to four.

5. Then, instruct them to exhale slowly through their mouth while counting to six.

6. Repeat this deep breathing cycle five times, encouraging students to concentrate on the sensation of air flowing in and out of their lungs.

7. After the last exhalation, ask students to gently open their eyes and refocus their attention on the classroom, bringing with them a sense of calm and concentration.

Content Contextualization

Studying prepositions in English might seem like just another grammar lesson, but it’s actually a fantastic opportunity to nurture essential socioemotional skills. Prepositions act as connectors of ideas, expressing relationships between different elements in a sentence, much like how social skills help us relate to others and understand their feelings. For example, choosing the right preposition is a practice of responsible decision-making, a vital skill in language as well as social interactions.

Consider being in a foreign land and needing to ask for directions. Using the appropriate preposition can be crucial in finding your way, rather than getting lost. In much the same way, understanding and accurately using prepositions can foster clearer communication and deeper social connections.

Development

Duration: 60 to 75 minutes

Activity with Socioemotional Feedback

Duration: 30 to 35 minutes

Preposition Game

Students will be split into groups and given a set of cards, each featuring a unique preposition. They will need to construct sentences using these prepositions and present them to the class. This activity not only encourages the correct use of prepositions but also fosters social skills and awareness through group collaboration and sharing ideas.

1. Divide the class into groups of 3 to 4 learners.

2. Hand out a set of cards with different prepositions to each group.

3. Explain that each group must create 5 sentences using the prepositions from their cards.

4. Encourage the students to discuss amongst themselves to ensure the sentences are correct and make sense.

5. Have each group present their sentences to the class, detailing their use of the prepositions.

6. After each presentation, invite feedback from the other groups regarding the use of the prepositions and the clarity of the sentences.

Discussion and Group Feedback

Following the activity, adopt the RULER method to guide a group discussion. Recognize the emotions involved in the activity by asking students how they felt about working in groups and presenting their sentences. Understand the triggers of those feelings by discussing how collaboration and communication shaped their experiences. Label these emotions appropriately, helping students identify feelings such as nervousness, joy, or pride. Express these emotions constructively, encouraging students to share their experiences. Regulate emotions by discussing strategies to cope with negative feelings and reinforcing positive ones, thereby nurturing a healthier and more collaborative learning environment.

Conclusion

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

Reflection and Emotional Regulation

For reflection and emotional regulation, ask students to write a short paragraph about the challenges they faced during the lesson and how they managed their emotions related to those challenges. Alternatively, facilitate a group discussion where students can share their experiences and feelings. Encourage them to contemplate how group cooperation and communication shaped their emotions and learning.

Objective: The aim of this activity is to foster self-assessment and emotional regulation. By reflecting on their experiences and emotions, students enhance their ability to identify effective strategies for navigating challenging situations, thus promoting self-awareness and emotional regulation skills essential for both academic and personal success.

Glimpse into the Future

To wrap up the lesson, clarify to students the significance of setting personal and academic goals pertaining to the content learnt. Encourage them to reflect on how they can use their knowledge of prepositions in their everyday lives and future studies. Ask students to jot down two goals: one personal and one academic, tied to their understanding of prepositions in English.

Penetapan Objective:

1. Correctly apply prepositions in writing and conversations.

2. Boost confidence in using prepositions in varying contexts.

3. Utilize prepositions accurately in academic texts.

4. Develop the ability to identify and rectify errors in the use of prepositions.

5. Practice forming complex sentences using a range of prepositions. Objective: The objective of this section is to enhance students' independence and practical application of their learning. By setting personal and academic goals, students are encouraged to further their academic and personal development, applying what they have learnt about prepositions in their daily lives and future studies.
