Objective

Duration: 10 to 15 minutes

The aim of this phase in the Socio-emotional Lesson Plan is to clearly present the learning objectives to students, ensuring they understand what is expected of them. By outlining the subject matter and the skills required, students can relate the content to their own experiences and feelings, which promotes the development of socio-emotional competencies such as self-awareness and self-control. This phase also sets the stage for the lesson, helping to engage and motivate students right from the start.

Objective Utama

1. Identify and describe the key events in track and field, such as sprints, race walks, throws, and jumps.

2. Grasp the fundamental rules and understand how participation in track and field activities affects our physical well-being, encouraging a reflection on the importance of sports for both physical and mental health.

3. Cultivate socio-emotional skills like self-awareness and self-regulation through the practice and exploration of track and field events.

Introduction

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

Emotional Warmup Activity

Mindfulness Moment

Mindfulness practice is a method used to bring attention to the present moment. This helps students develop focus, presence, and concentration. During this activity, students will be guided through a series of steps aimed at connecting them with their emotions and the environment around them, fostering a more relaxed and open mindset for Physical Education class.

1. Ask the students to find a comfortable seated position with their backs straight and feet flat on the ground.

2. Instruct them to close their eyes and place their hands on their knees, palms facing upward.

3. Begin guiding them through deep breathing exercises: inhale slowly through the nose, hold for a few seconds, and then exhale gently through the mouth.

4. After a few deep breaths, encourage them to focus on the sensations of their breath, noticing how the air enters and exits their lungs.

5. Prompt them to observe any thoughts or feelings that come up but advise them to let them pass by like clouds in the sky.

6. Next, lead them through a body scan, starting from their toes and moving up to their head, encouraging them to notice and relax any areas of tension as they go along.

7. Wrap up the practice by asking students to slowly open their eyes and return their attention to the classroom, bringing a sense of calm and focus with them.

Content Contextualization

Track and field encompasses a variety of events including sprints, race walks, throws, and jumps, and it calls for both physical abilities and emotional composure. Picture an Olympic athlete gearing up for a 100-meter sprint; the excitement, anticipation, and adrenaline are palpable, yet they must sustain focus and self-control to perform at their best. In our lesson today, we will delve into the techniques and rules of track and field, and examine how our emotions can impact our performance and physical health. Grasping and managing our emotions is essential for achieving success and fulfillment in sports and in life.

Development

Duration: 60 to 75 minutes

Theory Guide

Duration: 20 to 25 minutes

1. Sprints: Sprints are highly regarded events in track and field, categorized into short (100m, 200m, 400m), middle (800m, 1500m), and long distances (5000m, 10000m). Take the 100m dash as an example, which requires explosive strength and top speed.

2. Race Walks: Race walking is a unique endurance event where one of the main rules is that the athlete must keep at least one foot on the ground at all times. It’s important to explain that mastering this technique is vital to avoid disqualification.

3. Throws: This includes shot put, discus throw, javelin, and hammer throw. Each event has a set of specific techniques and rules. The shot put serves as a great example, demanding both power and technique to send the metal ball as far as possible.

4. Jumps: Jumps are divided into high jump, pole vault, long jump, and triple jump. For instance, in the high jump, the athlete must mix speed with jumping technique and coordination to successfully clear the bar without toppling it.

5. Rules and Body Impacts: Each event comes with its own distinct rules that athletes must adhere to in order to avoid penalties. Additionally, the physical demands on the body vary across events, calling for different kinds of physical and mental preparation. For example, long-distance running emphasizes cardiovascular endurance, while throws focus on muscular strength.

Activity with Socioemotional Feedback

Duration: 40 to 50 minutes

Track and Field Circuit with Socio-emotional Reflection

Students will engage in a circuit featuring activities that simulate different track and field events. Each station will focus on a specific event, giving students the chance to practice and reflect on their emotions and performance.

1. Split the class into smaller groups and assign them to various circuit stations (running, walking, throwing, and jumping).

2. Before practicing each event, explain the fundamental rules and techniques.

3. Each group will have a designated amount of time to practice at each station (around 10 minutes per station).

4. During practice, ask students to reflect on their emotions and those of their peers, noting any feelings or reactions they observe.

5. Once all stations are completed, bring the students back together in a circle for a group discussion.

Discussion and Group Feedback

After practicing the events, guide a group discussion using the RULER method. Recognize the range of emotions experienced during the activities: invite students to share how they felt at each station (nervous, excited, frustrated, happy). Understand what caused those feelings: inquire about triggers (struggles with technique, successful executions, encouragement from classmates). Label their emotions accurately: help students to identify and name their emotions correctly. Express their feelings appropriately: discuss how they expressed these emotions during activities (positively or negatively). Regulate emotions effectively: suggest techniques for dealing with emotions during sports practice, such as deep breathing, focusing on technique, and leaning on classmates for support. This reflection will help students gain better insight into their emotional responses and enhance their self-awareness and self-regulation skills.

Conclusion

Duration: 15 to 20 minutes

Reflection and Emotional Regulation

For the reflection and emotional regulation activity, suggest a group discussion or a written activity. Ask students to write one or two paragraphs addressing the challenges they faced throughout the track and field lesson and how they coped with their emotions. Encourage reflection on questions such as: What emotions surfaced during each event? How did those emotions affect their performance? What strategies did they use to manage those emotions and stay on task? In the discussion, motivate students to share their experiences and actively listen to each other, fostering a supportive atmosphere.

Objective: The goal of this activity is to promote self-assessment and emotional regulation. By reflecting on the challenges faced and the strategies employed to navigate their emotions, students will be able to pinpoint effective methods for handling tough situations in the future, both in sports and other areas of their lives. This exercise enhances self-awareness and self-control, which are vital components of socio-emotional growth.

Glimpse into the Future

At the end of the lesson, the teacher can assist students in setting personal and academic goals related to what was covered. Prompt them to think of specific objectives they wish to achieve in relation to the track and field events practiced. Students can jot down these goals and share some with the class if they choose. Emphasize the importance of setting clear and attainable goals and discuss how this practice will support their ongoing development of physical and emotional skills.

Penetapan Objective:

1. Enhance technique in a specific track and field event.

2. Boost physical endurance for long-distance running.

3. Improve self-control during high-pressure circumstances.

4. Foster teamwork and supportive skills among peers.

5. Implement a regular training routine outside of Physical Education classes. Objective: The aim of this section is to empower students’ independence and practical application of what they’ve learned. By establishing personal and academic goals, students are motivated to further cultivate their physical and emotional abilities, nurturing a sense of responsibility and commitment to their own growth. This also fosters a forward-looking mindset where skills developed in Physical Education translate into real-life improvements.
