Assumptions: This Active Lesson Plan assumes: a 100-minute class, prior student study with both the Book and the start of Project development, and that only one activity (among the three suggested) will be chosen to be conducted during the class, as each activity is designed to take up a significant portion of the available time.

Objectives

Duration: (5 - 10 minutes)

The Objectives stage is crucial for directing the focus of the lesson and the students' learning expectations. By clearly defining what is expected to be achieved, this section serves as a compass for subsequent activities, ensuring that both students and the teacher are aligned on the expected outcomes. In addition, it helps to establish a link between the prior theory studied by students and the practice that will be carried out in class, facilitating the application of concepts in real-life language use situations.

Main Objectives:

1. Understand clearly the concept of vowels, semivowels, and consonants, identifying their characteristics and functions in the phonetic system of the Portuguese language.

2. Develop the ability to differentiate vowels, semivowels, and consonants from each other and from the phonemes they represent, through practical examples and interactive exercises.

Side Objectives:

1. Encourage active participation from students in identifying and discussing linguistic examples that involve vowels, semivowels, and consonants.

Introduction

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The Introduction stage serves to engage students with the content they studied previously, using problem situations that challenge them to apply their knowledge practically. In addition, the contextualization helps connect theoretical content with real situations, increasing the relevance of the study and motivating students to explore the theme more deeply.

Problem-Based Situations

1. Ask students to identify the vowels, semivowels, and consonants in a list of words they studied at home. For example, 'house', 'love', 'fire'. Discuss in small groups the differences between these classes of sounds and how they are represented in speech.

2. Present a short text with missing vowels and ask students to complete it, identifying the role of each letter in the formation of syllables and words. Example: 'O _n_o _o _ _ _o'. Ask them to justify their choices based on prior knowledge of vowels, semivowels, and consonants.

Activity 1 - The Sound Hunt

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the ability to identify and classify vowels, semivowels, and consonants in contextual words.

- Description: In this activity, students will be divided into groups of up to five people. Each group will receive a list of words (previously studied) with blanks representing the hidden vowels, semivowels, and consonants. The challenge is to correctly fill in the blanks, identifying and classifying the corresponding sounds.

- Instructions:

• Form groups of up to five students.

• Distribute to each group the list of words with blanks.

• Students should discuss in groups and fill in the blanks with the letters corresponding to the correct vowels, semivowels, and consonants.

• Each group presents their answers for class discussion.

• Conduct a collective correction, highlighting the main learning points.

Activity 2 - Syllable Builders

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Practice word formation and sound classification in a friendly competition context.

- Description: Students, organized into groups, will receive cards with letters. They should build syllables and then words, observing and classifying the vowels, semivowels, and consonants. The final challenge is to form the greatest number of correct words within a given time.

- Instructions:

• Divide the class into groups of no more than five students.

• Distribute letter cards to each group.

• Set a time for students to build syllables and then form as many correct words as possible.

• Each group must justify the classification of each letter as a vowel, semivowel, or consonant.

• At the end, each group presents the words built and their classifications.

Activity 3 - Sound Theater

> Duration: (60 - 70 minutes)

- Objective: Develop the ability to differentiate and manipulate sounds in context, as well as promote teamwork and creativity skills.

- Description: Each group of students chooses a scene from a well-known play or movie. They should act it out, replacing the vowels, semivowels, and consonants of the dialogues with random sounds, and other groups will try to guess the modified words. This activity aims to reinforce auditory recognition and sound differentiation.

- Instructions:

• Organize students into groups and ask them to choose a scene from a play or movie.

• The groups should alter the sounds of the dialogues, maintaining grammatical logic, to random sounds that represent vowels, semivowels, or consonants.

• Other groups try to guess the modified words.

• Discuss the changes made and why each sound was chosen.

• Conclude with a reflection on the importance of different sounds in language.

Feedback

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

The aim of this stage is to consolidate the learning obtained in practical activities, allowing students to reflect on the application of theoretical concepts in real contexts and share their learning experiences. This discussion helps identify gaps in understanding and reinforce knowledge through the exchange of ideas among students and with the teacher, promoting a deeper and more lasting understanding of the topic.

Group Discussion

Start the discussion with a brief review of the concepts of vowels, semivowels, and consonants, reinforcing what was learned in the activities. Then, ask each group to share their discoveries and challenges faced during the activities. Encourage students to explain how they applied prior knowledge to solve the proposed problems and which strategies were most effective.
