Objectives

Duration: (10 - 15 minutes)

The purpose of this stage is to ensure that students understand the importance of verb tenses in written and spoken communication in English, while developing socio-emotional skills such as self-awareness and self-regulation through the RULER method. This initial understanding is crucial for students to be able to use verb tenses correctly and recognize their own emotions and those of others in the learning process.

Main Goals

1. Develop the recognition and correct application of verb tenses in English.

2. Promote understanding of the causes and consequences of emotions when using different verb tenses in various contexts.

Introduction

Duration: (20 - 25 minutes)

Emotional Warm-up Activity

Guided Meditation for Focus and Presence

The guided meditation activity is a practice that helps promote focus, presence, and concentration. By guiding students through a series of breathing and visualization steps, they will be able to connect more deeply with their emotions and prepare their minds for learning. This practice not only calms the mind but also improves mental clarity and the ability to pay attention.

1. Environment: Ask students to sit comfortably in their chairs, with their feet touching the ground and their hands resting in their lap.

2. Initial Breathing: Instruct students to close their eyes and take three deep breaths, inhaling through their nose and exhaling through their mouth.

3. Focus on Breathing: Guide students to focus on their natural breathing, feeling the air enter and leave their body.

4. Visualization: Ask students to imagine a peaceful and relaxing place, like a beach or a flower field, and visualize themselves in that place for a few minutes.

5. Emotional Exploration: Suggest that students identify any emotion present in the moment, without judgment, just recognizing its existence.

6. Final Breathing: Instruct students to take three more deep breaths, and then slowly open their eyes, bringing calm and focus to the present moment.

7. Reflection: Reserve a few minutes for students to share, if they wish, how the experience was and how they feel.

Content Contextualization

Verb tenses in English are fundamental for effective communication, allowing us to express when actions occur. Imagine writing a letter to a friend describing your past vacations or discussing your future plans. The correct choice of verb tenses is crucial for conveying your experiences and intentions accurately. Just as we need to understand our emotions and those of others to communicate well, we need to master verb tenses to be understood in any context. By learning to use verb tenses correctly, students are also developing the ability to recognize and express their emotions appropriately, improving their social skills and social awareness.

Development

Duration: (60 - 75 minutes)

Socioemotional Feedback Activity

Duration: (30 - 35 minutes)

Practical Exercises on Verb Tenses with Socio-Emotional Feedback

In this activity, students will be divided into groups and will receive sentences to complete using different verb tenses. After completing the sentences, each group will share their answers with the class. The focus will be not only on grammatical correctness but also on expressing and regulating emotions while working in a group.

1. Group Division: Divide the class into groups of 4 to 5 students.

2. Distribution of Sentences: Give each group a set of incomplete sentences that need to be filled in with the correct verb tenses.

3. Group Discussion: Ask students to discuss among themselves and complete the sentences, explaining the reasons for their choices.

4. Presentation of Answers: Each group should present their completed sentences to the class.

5. Socio-Emotional Feedback: After each presentation, students should share how they felt during the activity and how they dealt with any emotional or interpersonal challenges that arose.

Group Discussion

To apply the RULER method during the group discussion, start by asking students to recognize the emotions they felt while working in the group. Ask if they noticed feelings of frustration, anxiety, or joy. Then, encourage them to understand the causes of those emotions. For example, if they felt frustration, was it due to difficulty with grammar or group dynamics?

Label the emotions correctly and discuss the importance of accurately labeling emotions. Ask students to express those emotions appropriately, perhaps by sharing their experiences with empathy and respect. Finally, work with students to regulate those emotions, offering strategies to deal with negative feelings and reinforcing the importance of mutual support and effective communication.

Conclusion

Duration: (15 - 20 minutes)

Emotional Reflection and Regulation

For the Reflection and Emotional Regulation activity, ask students to write one or two paragraphs about the challenges faced during the class. They should describe how they felt dealing with the different verb tenses and how they managed their emotions while working in groups. Alternatively, organize a group discussion where students can share their experiences and reflect on the strategies they used to regulate their emotions and face challenges.

Objective: The objective of this subsection is to encourage self-assessment and emotional regulation among students, helping them identify effective strategies for dealing with challenging situations. It is hoped that students will develop greater self-awareness and self-regulation, applying these skills in the context of the lesson and in other areas of their lives.

Closure and A Look Into The Future

For the Closing and Looking to the Future, explain to students the importance of setting personal and academic goals. Ask each student to write a personal goal and an academic goal related to the content of the lesson, such as improving understanding of a specific verb tense or working better in a team. Encourage students to think of concrete steps they can take to achieve those goals and how they can monitor their progress over time.

Possible Goal Ideas:

1. Improve understanding and application of verb tenses in English.

2. Develop better communication and cooperation in group activities.

3. Enhance the ability to recognize and regulate emotions in academic situations.

4. Increase confidence in using different verb tenses in speaking and writing contexts. Objective: The objective of this subsection is to strengthen students' autonomy and practical application of learning. By setting personal and academic goals, students can continue to develop their skills in both mastering English and emotional management, promoting integral development that extends beyond the classroom.
