Warming Up

Explain that capitalism is an economic system based on private ownership of the means of production and the creation of goods and services for profit. Then, ask students to use their phones to look up an interesting or recent fact about capitalism, whether it's a news item, a statistical data point, or a historical curiosity. Encourage them to share what they find with the class to initiate the discussion.

- Objective: To bring students closer to modern communication dynamics, allowing them to explore capitalism in a practical and interactive way, encouraging critical thinking through the creation and dissemination of content.

- Description: Students will divide into groups and create a fictional profile of a digital influencer who addresses economic topics, especially capitalism. They will use simulated social media to share content about labor relations in capitalism, social inequality, globalization, and economic crises. They will utilize short videos, posts with graphs and data, and engagement with followers to disseminate information.

- Instructions:

• Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

• Each group must create a fictional profile of a digital influencer on a simulated social media platform (it can be a specific platform for the activity or a spreadsheet/email to send the posts).

• Groups will have to make posts about different aspects of capitalism: labor relations, social inequality, impacts of globalization, and economic crises.

• Each group must create at least 3 posts using different formats: text, image, short video.

• Students should interact with 'followers' (other groups) simulating a dynamic social network.

• After the posts, each group will present their posts and discuss the reception and impact of them on the 'social network.'

Activity 2 - Capitalism Game 🎮

- Objective: To provide a practical and playful experience about the dynamics of capitalism, allowing students to visualize the consequences of economic and commercial decisions in a simulated environment.

- Description: Students will participate in a digital board game based on the capitalist economy. The game will simulate a market where students must manage resources, make strategic decisions about production, trade, and labor relations to achieve profit. The digital platform will allow students to visualize the impacts of their decisions in real-time.

- Instructions:

• Divide students into groups of up to 5 people and ask them to access the online game platform.

• Each group will choose a fictional company and start with an initial set of resources.

• Groups will have to make strategic decisions about how to invest their resources: production, hiring workers, marketing, etc.

• During the game, random events based on real capitalist situations (economic crises, changes in labor legislation, technological innovations) will occur.

• Students must react to these events and adjust their strategies, observing the economic and social impacts of their decisions.

• At the end of the game, groups will analyze the results and discuss what they learned about how capitalism works.

Activity 3 - Podcast: Debating Capitalism 🎙️

- Objective: To develop communication, research, and critical thinking skills, allowing students to explore the capitalist economy collaboratively and creatively.

- Description: Students will be divided into groups and create a podcast episode discussing different aspects of capitalism, its labor relations, social, and economic impacts. They can use simulated interviews, debates, and data presentations to enrich the content.

- Instructions:

• Divide students into groups of up to 5 people.

• Each group must plan and record a podcast episode lasting 10 to 15 minutes.

• The podcast theme must cover different aspects of capitalism: labor relations, social inequality, globalization, economic crisis.

• Groups can use simulated interviews, debates, data presentation, and experimentation with different audio formats.

• The podcasts should be edited and presented to the class.

• After the presentation, promote a debate among groups about the points discussed in the podcasts and the different views presented.

The 360° feedback aims to develop communication and self-critique skills, in addition to strengthening collaboration and mutual respect among students.

Group Discussion

✨ Group Discussion: Promote a group discussion gathering all students together. Ask the groups to share their main conclusions and learnings gained during the activities. Use the following script to introduce the discussion: 'Now that everyone has had the opportunity to explore different aspects of capitalism through collaborative and interactive activities, let's share and discuss what we learned. Each group will be invited to present a summary of their activities and the main insights they gained.' Encourage students to ask questions and contribute their opinions during their peers' presentations.
