Urban Adventure

Objectives (5-7 minutes)

  1. Understand the concept of Urban Adventure: Students should be able to define and understand what Urban Adventure is, its characteristics, and how it differs from other forms of physical activities and sports. This will be achieved through a class discussion, where students will be encouraged to share their ideas and perceptions about the topic.

  2. Analyze the relevance of Urban Adventure in today's society: Students should be able to identify and discuss the importance of Urban Adventure in modern society. They should be able to relate this activity to issues such as health, the environment, leisure, and tourism. This will be achieved through a research activity, where students will look for real-world examples of how Urban Adventure is applied and valued.

  3. Develop skills for planning and executing an Urban Adventure: Students should be able to plan and execute an Urban Adventure in small groups. They will identify possible locations, plan routes, define objectives, and consider safety aspects. This will be achieved through a hands-on activity, where students will have the opportunity to apply what they have learned in a real and meaningful way.

Secondary Objectives:

  • Foster teamwork: During the hands-on activity, students will be encouraged to work in teams, which will help develop their cooperation and communication skills.

  • Stimulate critical thinking and problem-solving: By planning and executing the Urban Adventure, students will be challenged to think critically and solve problems effectively and efficiently. This will help develop their critical thinking and problem-solving skills, which are essential for success in many areas of life.

Introduction (10 - 15 minutes)

  1. Review of relevant content: The teacher begins the class by briefly reviewing concepts and practices related to Physical Education and sports, which are necessary for understanding Urban Adventure. This includes the importance of physical activity for health, different types of sports, and the notion of teamwork.

  2. Problem situations: Then, the teacher presents two problem situations to spark the interest of the students. The first situation could be about a group of friends who want to do an outdoor physical activity but who are tired of conventional options.   2. Theory: The Relevance of Urban Adventure in Today's Society (5-7 minutes):

    • The teacher continues the Development stage by discussing the importance of Urban Adventure in modern society. They highlight how this activity contributes to promoting health and well-being, to the appreciation and use of urban spaces, and to the promotion of local tourism.
    • The teacher can provide real-world examples of how Urban Adventure is applied and valued in different contexts. For example, they can talk about cities that promote obstacle races in their streets to attract tourists and foster a healthy lifestyle, or about companies that use Parkour to develop teamwork skills and overcoming challenges in their employees.
  3. Activity: Planning an Urban Adventure (10 - 12 minutes):

    • The teacher proposes to the students an activity of planning an Urban Adventure. Students will be divided into small groups and each group will have to plan an Urban Adventure in an urban area designated by the teacher.
    • The teacher provides the students with a map of the urban area and guides the students to identify possible locations for the Urban Adventure, to plan routes, define objectives, and consider safety aspects.
