Assignment

Explain to students that they will demonstrate their understanding of the David and Goliath story through a two-part assignment.

First, distribute the

My David and Goliath Story Retelling Sheet

. Instruct students to use the provided picture prompts to retell the story of David and Goliath in order. Guide them to write or dictate a sentence for each of the three key events depicted (David choosing a stone, David facing Goliath, David winning). As they complete this, encourage them to identify the main characters, David and Goliath, and describe one simple character trait for each, such as David being brave or Goliath being big.

Second, facilitate a discussion about David's bravery and problem-solving. Ask students to draw one way David showed courage or to act it out for the class. Following this, have students explain, in one or two sentences, how they might show courage in their own classroom or on the playground.

Finally, utilize the

David and Goliath Story Check-Up

to formally assess students' ability to identify main characters and recall key events or character traits.
