Hello, dear students! Our adventure through art is just beginning, and now we are going to talk about Aesthetic and Cultural Matrices. But what are these matrices? Well, imagine that the world of art is a big puzzle. Each piece represents the art of a different place, with its own colors, shapes, and stories. These pieces are our aesthetic and cultural matrix.

Can you imagine what the puzzle of Brazilian art would be like? And the puzzle of Chinese art? And the puzzle of African art? Each puzzle is unique, just like the art of each place. The Aesthetic and Cultural Matrices help us understand how each piece of this puzzle was built and what they tell us about their place of origin.

Introduction

Let's think about Brazil, for example. Our country has many faces, doesn't it? The faces of the indigenous people who lived here even before it was Brazil, the African blacks who were brought here, and the Portuguese who wanted to colonize these lands. All of them, and many others, are part of the aesthetic and cultural matrix of Brazil and helped shape our art.

Art, in turn, is like a language that we can all learn to speak. With it, we can express our feelings, tell our stories, and celebrate our cultures. When we look at a painting, a sculpture, or a dance, we are understanding a little more about who we are and who the other people around us are.

The Aesthetic and Cultural Matrices are, therefore, very important. They help us understand the art of each place and appreciate the diversity that exists in our great artistic puzzle. I hope you are as excited as I am to discover more about this fantastic world of art!

Practical Activity: "Creating Our Map of Aesthetics and Cultures"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow you, little artists, to create a representation that demonstrates your understanding of the different aesthetic and cultural matrices. You will work in groups and create an illustrated map of the chosen aesthetic and cultural matrices.

Project Description

Each group will choose three different aesthetic and cultural matrices to study. You should research the art of each matrix, its customs, history, and characteristics. Then, you will create an illustrated map with drawings that represent what you have learned about each matrix.

This map should be colorful and contain images or symbols that represent the characteristics of each chosen matrix. You should also write a brief description for each matrix, explaining in a few words what you have learned about the art and culture of the place.

Necessary Materials

• A3 size cardboard paper for the map
• Colored pencils, markers, gouache paint, colored glue, glitter, etc.
• Books, magazines, newspapers, or online resources for research

Step by Step

1. Form groups of 3 to 5 students.
2. Each group should choose three aesthetic and cultural matrices they want to represent on the map.
3. Research the art and culture of each chosen matrix. Find images, learn about the customs, discover the history. Write down everything you find interesting and that helps you better understand the matrix.
4. After the research, discuss with the group and decide which images or symbols you will use to represent each matrix on the map.
5. Draw the map on the cardboard paper. Each matrix should have its own space on the map. Don't forget to leave space to write the description of each matrix.
6. Now it's time to color and decorate the map. Use your creativity!
7. Write a brief description for each matrix. This text should explain about the art and culture of the represented matrix.

The map will be delivered after a month, and each student should invest between five to ten hours of work. Together, plan and divide the tasks so that everyone participates.
