Introduction and Contextualization
Introduction
Visual Arts are all art that aims at creating works that excel in the sense of sight. They encompass various areas, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, cinema, design, among others.
At first, let's learn a little about traditional visual arts. They are artworks that were created using recognized and established methods and styles. Famous paintings like Leonardo da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" and Van Gogh's "Starry Night" are examples of this type of art.
Next, we will explore contemporary visual arts, which are arts produced in the current period, encompassing a variety of styles, techniques, and mediums. Contemporary art can be made with almost any material, for example, Jeff Koons made a giant sculpture that looks like a dog balloon using polished stainless steel.
Contextualization
In the world we live in, we are constantly surrounded by visual arts. From book covers, advertisements, to fashion and the decoration of our homes. However, the importance of visual arts goes beyond simply decorating the world around us.
Studying visual arts helps us better understand the world we live in. Through art, we can explore ideas, express emotions, and create our own interpretation of reality. Additionally, we can learn about different cultures and histories through the artworks that have been created over time.
Understanding and appreciating visual arts is also a way to develop valuable skills, such as critical and creative thinking, problem-solving, and communication. These skills are important not only for learning in the classroom but also for life outside of school.
Therefore, this project aims to delve into the fascinating world of visual arts, focusing on traditional and contemporary visual arts, and to stimulate the development of skills that will be useful throughout their lives. Get ready for an exciting journey of discovery and creativity!
Practical Activity
Title of the Activity:
"Exploring Artists & Creating Art"
Project Objective:
Understanding and valuing different forms of Visual Arts, developing research skills, understanding historical context, creativity, and teamwork.
Detailed Project Description:
In this practical activity, groups will choose a traditional artwork and a contemporary artwork for study and then create their own creation inspired by the two chosen artworks.
Phase 1: Research
The first phase involves researching with the help of books, reliable websites, and magazines about the chosen artworks and artists. Each group should focus on understanding the context in which the artwork was created, the materials used, the history behind it, and the feelings the artist wanted to express.
Phase 2: Presentation
In the second phase, each group will present their findings to the class, through a slideshow presentation or a mini theater, for example. It is important that all group members participate!
Phase 3: Creation
In the third phase, groups will combine what they have learned to create an original artwork. They can use the material of their choice (paper, chalk, clay, fabric, etc.). The artwork should be a combination of the traditional and contemporary artworks studied, mixing elements, styles, or techniques.
Phase 4: Exhibition
Finally, we will organize an exhibition of the creations at the school. The groups will present their creations and explain to the audience how the two studied artworks influenced the final result.
Necessary Materials:
- Internet access for research
- Art books
- Presentation materials (cardboard, pens, projector, etc.)
- Materials for creating the artwork (depending on the group's plans, it may include materials such as paper, crayons, clay, fabrics, etc.)
Detailed Step-by-Step for Carrying Out the Activity:
-
Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.
-
Choosing the Artworks: Each group will choose a traditional artwork and a contemporary artwork for study.
-
Conducting Research: Groups should research their chosen artists and artworks to understand the context in which they were created, techniques and materials used, among other relevant information.
-
Preparing the Presentation: Each group should prepare a presentation about the findings from the research. It is important that all group members actively participate in this stage.
-
Creating the Artwork: Inspired by the artists and their studied artworks, each group will create their own artwork. Students need to think together and decide the best way to mix and recombine elements from the studied artworks.
-
Final Presentation and Exhibition: Finally, the groups will present their findings and showcase their creations in an exhibition at the school.
Delivery Format:
Students will deliver the project in 2 moments:
- An oral presentation, where they will share the study conducted on the chosen artworks and artists.
- The exhibition of their own creations, where they will explain how they were influenced by the studied artworks and what the creation process was like.
The entire research, discussions, and creations process should be documented in a group "logbook," which can be a common notebook, where students will write down what they did, learned, and felt at each stage of the project.
Remember: the important thing is the learning journey, not just the final result! Have fun exploring the world of visual arts!
