Subject's Place in the World

Contextualization

Hello, world explorers! Let's embark on an exciting journey of discovery about our 'Place in the Subject's World'! Have you ever stopped to think about how each of us is unique and special? We, humans, are social beings and we live in communities, whether in our homes, schools, or even in a city. And each of these communities is part of a much larger place, our planet Earth!

Geography helps us understand the world around us, from the physical characteristics of the Earth, such as rivers, mountains, and oceans, to the ways in which people live and interact with the environment. Let's use this powerful tool to explore the idea of 'place' and understand how it applies to each of us.

Introduction

Now, let's dive a little deeper! Every place in the world has its own unique characteristics. For example, the city where you live has streets, houses, schools, parks, and many other things that make it special. But, in addition to that, each of you also has your own place in the world. This includes where you come from, your family, friends, language, favorite food, and even your stories and traditions.

Our journey of discovery is not limited to our immediate place. Let's also explore how all places are interconnected. For example, you may not have been to China, but you may have already eaten Chinese food or learned about the Great Wall of China at school. This shows how the idea of place goes beyond where we are physically and includes the connections we have with other places around the world.

Now that we have an overview of our project, are you ready to embark on this geographical adventure? Let's find out more about our 'Place in the Subject's World' and share our discoveries with our team friends. Remember, together we are stronger and the journey will be much more fun!

Practical Activity: 'My Place in the World'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to help students understand and appreciate the idea of 'place in the subject's world' through a practical activity. They will explore the place where they live, the local culture, and their own connections with other places around the world.

Project Description

Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will create a 'Map of My Place in the World'. This map will be a visual representation of the place where they live, highlighting unique features and connections with other places.

Materials Needed

  • Cardboard or card paper (size A3 or larger)
  • Colored pencils, markers, crayons
  • Blunt scissors
  • Glue
  • Old magazines, newspapers, travel brochures (for cutting and pasting)
  • Photos (optional - can be printed or drawn)

Step by Step

  1. Research: Each group should research the place where they live, including the city or village, the school, the house, the parks, and any other location they consider important. They should also research the local culture, food, traditions, etc. They can interview family members, neighbors, or even do online research.

  2. Planning: With the research in hand, students should discuss together what are the most important aspects they want to highlight on their map. For example, they may want to show the school they attend, the park where they play, grandma's house, etc.

  3. Map Creation: Now it's time to get to work! Using cardboard or card paper, students should draw the map of the place where they live. They can use their memories, photos, or even the internet to help them. They should try to be as detailed as possible.

  4. Highlighting Important Places: Each group should choose at least five places they consider important and mark them on the map. They can use different colors, stickers, or even photos to highlight these places.

  5. Connections with Other Places: Now, students should think about how the place where they live connects with other places around the world. For example, they may have a Chinese food store or a neighbor who came from Japan. They should mark these connections on the map, perhaps by drawing small flags or symbols.

  6. Presentation: After completing the map, each group should present their work to the class. They should explain what each part of the map represents and talk about the connections they found with other places.

Students will have one week to complete the project. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun while learning about the 'Place in the Subject's World'!
