Introduction

In this project, we will explore different places around the world and understand their unique characteristics. We will discover how the climate, vegetation, culture, and history of a place influence how it is and how people live in it.

Places can be large and small, natural or man-made, hot or cold, dry or humid, and each of them has its own particularities. For example, the Amazon Rainforest is a natural place that has a huge diversity of plants and animals. On the other hand, the city of New York is a place built by man, full of skyscrapers, shops, restaurants, and millions of people.

Furthermore, places also have their own stories and cultures. Greece, for example, is a place full of ancient ruins that tell us the history of the Greek civilization. Japan, on the other hand, is a place with a rich and unique culture, with its traditions, cuisine, and arts.

At the end of the project, you will become true experts in different places. And most importantly, you will learn to value and respect the diversity of our planet. So, let's go on this geographical adventure!

Practical Activity: "My World Box"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students to explore and learn about different places around the world. They will research, collect information, and create a World Box, representing a place of their choice. This activity will develop an interest in Geography, a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and creativity.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will research a specific place, gather information and materials that represent it, and create a World Box. The World Box will be a three-dimensional representation of the chosen place, containing elements that show its geographical, cultural, and historical characteristics.

Necessary Materials

• Cardboard boxes (one for each group, preferably of various sizes)
• Blunt scissors
• Glue
• Paints and brushes
• Old magazines for cutting out
• Colored paper
• Colored pencils
• Stickers
• Tape

Step by Step

1. Choosing the Place: Each group should choose a place in the world that they would like to learn more about. It can be a country, a city, a forest, a desert, etc.

2. Research: With the help of the teacher, the library, or the internet, the groups should research the chosen place. They should look for information about the climate, vegetation, culture, and history of the place.

3. Creating the World Box: Using the cardboard boxes, the groups will create the World Box. They can use the box as a base and add other pieces of cardboard to create different parts of the place (for example, mountains, buildings, rivers, etc). They can paint, glue figures, draw, use creativity to represent the characteristics of the place.

4. Representative Items: Inside the box, the groups should place objects, drawings, or magazine cutouts that represent the characteristics of the place. For example, if the chosen place is Brazil, they can include a photo of the Amazon Rainforest, a drawing of a monkey, a Brazilian flag, etc.

5. Presentation: When the World Box is ready, each group will present it to the class. They should explain the characteristics of the place, share what they learned in the research, and show the items they placed inside the box.

Delivery Format

Each group should deliver the ready World Box and make the presentation to the class. Additionally, they should submit a brief report with the information they researched about the chosen place. The report can be handwritten or typed (with adult assistance if necessary).
