Activity Title: 'Exploring Our Community'

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is to have students learn to represent and read mathematical research while exploring the community they live in. They will collect data on different aspects of the community, organize this data, and create visual representations to share their findings. Additionally, students will also develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and time management.

Detailed Project Description:

In this activity, students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for researching and collecting data on an element of the community chosen by them. These elements can be: types of houses in the neighborhood, animals living in the local park, foods sold at the market, etc.

After collecting data, the groups will organize this information in a table and create a visual representation of the data in a creative way. They can choose to create a bar graph, a pie chart, a line graph, or a Venn diagram, depending on the type of data they collected.

Finally, the groups will present their findings to the class, explaining what they learned and what they found most interesting in the research.

Materials Needed:

  • Notebook and pencil for notes
  • Sheets of paper or cardboard for the visual representation of data
  • Colored pens, colored pencils, crayons, etc. for decorating the visual representation
  • Ruler and compass, if necessary for the chosen visual representation
