Hygiene Habits

Contextualization

Hygiene habits are everyday practices that we carry out with the intention of taking care of our health and well-being. Since we were little, we have been taught that washing our hands before meals, brushing our teeth after eating and taking regular showers are important actions to keep ourselves clean. But have you ever stopped to think about the real importance of these habits?

On our skin and on many objects around us live countless beings that are invisible to our eyes: microorganisms. Some of them are beneficial and even essential to our body, but others can cause us various diseases. That's where the importance of hygiene habits comes in!

Introduction

Hygiene habits are not only a way of keeping us clean, but also a protective barrier against these harmful microorganisms. With the simple act of washing our hands properly, we can eliminate many of them before they have a chance to enter our body.

In addition, personal hygiene also influences our relationships with other people. Someone who takes care of themselves and keeps themselves clean conveys a positive image, of respect for themselves and for others, contributing to a more pleasant coexistence.

But hygiene habits are not just about personal care. The way we deal with the environment around us is also essential. Keeping our home clean, for example, also helps to prevent the emergence and spread of diseases.

The importance of hygiene habits

Hygiene habits are essential for our health and well-being. In the current context, in which we are experiencing a pandemic, this becomes even more evident. Simple practices such as washing hands frequently and wearing a mask have become essential to preventing the spread of the new coronavirus.

Furthermore, hygiene also plays an important role in the prevention of a number of other diseases, such as diarrhea, influenza, conjunctivitis, and even some more serious diseases, such as hepatitis A.

Therefore, learning about hygiene habits and putting them into practice in our daily lives is something that benefits us in the short and long term, contributing to a healthier and happier life.

So, are you ready to embark on this journey of discovery about hygiene habits? Let's go!

Practical Activity: Hygiene Explorers

Project objective

The purpose of this activity is to provide students with the opportunity to learn in a practical and fun way about hygiene habits. Through the production of posters and theatrical presentations, they will be encouraged to explore the importance and ways of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene. In addition, this project allows them to develop skills such as teamwork, communication and time management.

Project description

This project will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will have to create an informative poster on one of the four hygiene topics. In the second phase, each group will have to develop and present a play based on their topic, creatively exploring the concepts learned.

The topics for the posters and presentations will be:

  1. The importance of washing your hands
  2. Oral and dental hygiene
  3. Hygiene in food
  4. Environmental hygiene (home and school)

Materials required

  • Card stock or cardboard
  • Colored pens, markers and crayons
  • Glue and scissors
  • Old magazines (for cutting and pasting)
  • Internet (for research)
  • Clothing and props for the theatrical presentation

Step by step

Phase 1 - Informative Poster

  1. Divide the students into groups of 3 to 5.
  2. Assign one of the four hygiene topics to each group.
  3. The groups will have to research the assigned topic and create an informative poster. The poster should contain information on the importance of the topic, tips for maintaining hygiene and illustrative images.
  4. Let the students be creative in making the posters, encourage the use of collages, drawings and colors.

Phase 2 - Theatrical Presentation

  1. After finishing the posters, the groups will have to develop a theatrical presentation based on the topic they explored.
  2. The presentation should contain a situation involving the importance of the assigned hygiene topic, clearly showing the "before" and "after" of the application of the hygiene habit.
  3. The performances should be rehearsed and presented to the class. Encourage students to incorporate the use of songs, dances or rhymes to make the presentation more fun and memorable.

At the end of the project, the posters will be displayed in the classroom and the students will explain what they learned during the activity. Theatrical presentations can also be filmed and shared with parents, as a way to involve them in their children's learning.
