Hello, little linguists! Are you ready to embark on a journey full of sounds, rhymes, and discoveries? In this project, we will explore one of the most fun concepts of the Portuguese language: syllabic formation. But wait, what is that?

In our language, words are divided into sound units called "syllables". They are like small pieces of sound that, together, form the words we use every day. For example, the word bola (ball) has a single syllable, while the word banana has three: ba-na-na. The formation of syllables may seem like something simple, but it is a fundamental basis for reading, writing, and understanding our language.

Introduction

Now that we know what syllables are, we can begin to understand how they are formed in words. Each syllable is formed by one or more letters, which can be vowels or consonants. Vowels are the sounds we make when air passes freely through our mouth, as in a, e, i, o, u. Consonants, in turn, are the sounds we make when we partially or completely obstruct the passage of air, as in b, c, d, f, g, and so on.

Now, the really interesting part: syllables group together to form words. And, for that, we use vowels and consonants in very special ways. In some words, a vowel forms a syllable alone, as in a-mi-za-de (friendship). In others, a consonant joins a vowel to form a syllable, as in ca-sa (house). And we even have words that have syllables formed only by consonants, like psicó-lo-go (psychologist). Fascinating, isn't it?

You must have noticed that there are many games, songs, and activities that involve words and their sounds, right? This is because syllabic formation is an essential element for our communication and expression. By understanding how syllables are formed and come together, we can explore a world of possibilities in the Portuguese language. And that's exactly what we are going to do in this project: explore, play, and learn together!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: "Discovering Syllables"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students to explore, in practice, the syllabic formation of words, identifying and classifying the syllables. In addition, the project aims to develop socio-emotional skills such as collaboration, communication, and critical thinking.

Project Description

In this project, students will create a thematic board game in which they will explore different words, identify their syllables, and classify them. Each group of students will be responsible for creating their own game, from designing the board to defining the rules. In the end, each group will present their game to the class, explaining how it works and which syllabic formation concepts it addresses.

Required Materials

• Cardboard or cardboard for the board
• Colored pens
• Dice
• Player pieces (can be buttons, bottle caps, or any other small object)
• Sheets of paper to write down the words
• Pencils and erasers

Step by Step

1. Group Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be a team of "syllable detectives".

2. Theme Selection: Each group must choose a theme for their game. It can be about animals, fruits, professions, etc.

3. Board Design: Draw a board on the cardboard or cardboard. It can be colorful and with illustrations related to the chosen theme.

4. Rule Definition: Each group must think of rules for their game. The idea is that the game involves the identification and classification of the syllables of the words. It can be a question and answer game, memory game, board walk game, among others.

5. Creation of Cards: Each group must write several words related to the chosen theme. In each word, students must identify and mark the syllables. The words and cards should be colorful and eye-catching.

6. Game Assembly: Once ready, the cards should be shuffled and placed in a pile. The dice and pieces should also be prepared.

7. Game Testing: Before presenting the game to the class, each group must test it among the members of their own group, checking if the rules are clear and if the game is working correctly.

8. Game Presentation: Finally, each group will present their game to the class. In this presentation, they should explain how the game works, how the words and syllables are related, and which syllabic formation concepts can be learned by playing.

Remember that the whole process should be carried out together and with respect for the ideas and opinions of all group members. And, of course, fun is also part of the game!

Delivery Format

The project delivery will be the presentation of the game created to the class. In addition, each group must submit a list of the words used in the game and the syllables identified and marked in each of them. This material will be used to assess the understanding of syllabic formation concepts.
