Activity Title: "The Time Box"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to help students understand the importance of objects in building memory, as well as encourage them to explore the past, the history of the place where they live, and their own memories.

Detailed Project Description

"The Time Box" is a practical activity that consists of creating a box that will house objects representing the history and memory of a specific location. The box will be filled by the students with the help of their families, who can contribute to the choice of objects and the stories behind them.

At the end of the project, each group will make a presentation to the class showing the objects they chose, telling the stories behind them, and explaining why they are important for the memory of the location.

Required Materials

• A cardboard box (can be a shoebox, for example)
• Blunt scissors
• Glue
• Colored papers
• Colored pens
• Old magazines
• Photographs
• Objects representing the history and memory of the location (can be an old toy, a tool, a decorative object, an object no longer in use, etc.)
• Internet access for research (with the help of parents or guardians)
• Camera or cell phone to document the process

Step by Step

1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.

2. Choose the Location: Each group should choose a location (can be a neighborhood, a city, a community, a region...) to research its history and memory.

3. Research about the Location: With the help of parents or guardians, students will research the history of the chosen location. They can look for books, websites, talk to older people living in the area, visit museums, etc.

4. Choose the Objects: Each group will choose 5 to 10 objects that represent the history and memory of the location. The objects can be found at home, at school, in the neighborhood, etc.

5. Prepare the Box: Students will decorate the cardboard box using the available materials (colored papers, pens, magazines, etc.). The box should represent the chosen location.

6. Fill the Box: Each group will place the chosen objects inside the box. Along with each object, students should write a brief description telling the story behind it and why it is important for the memory of the location.

7. Presentation to the Class: At the end of the project, each group will present the "Time Box" to the class. They should explain what they researched, show the objects, tell the stories, and explain why they are important for the memory of the location.

8. Project Documentation: Throughout the process, students should document what they are doing. They can take photos, make drawings, write texts, etc. These records will be used to evaluate each student's participation in the project.

Delivery Format

The project delivery will be the complete "Time Box" and the oral presentation to the class. In addition, students must submit a written report describing what they researched, describing each object and the story behind it, and reflecting on what they learned from the activity.
