Detailed Project Description
In this activity, students will embark on an "Adventure in the Land of Numbers" in groups of 3 to 5 members. They will be challenged to compose and decompose numbers less than 1000 in a playful and fun way. The activity will be divided into two parts: the First Mission and the Second Mission.
In the First Mission, the groups will receive a "Number Kit" containing cards with numbers from 1 to 9, as well as a card with the number 0. Using these cards, students should create different numbers less than 1000. For example, if the group has the card with the number 7, they can use this card to compose the number 573. In addition, the groups should also decompose the created numbers, explaining which cards they used to form each part of the number. For example, for the number 573, they should explain that they used the card with the number 5, the card with the number 7, and the card with the number 3.
In the Second Mission, the groups will receive a "Challenge Box". Inside the box, they will find numbers less than 1000 that have been composed or decomposed in a "mysterious" way. Using the composition and decomposition skills they learned in the first mission, students should discover how these numbers were formed. For example, if they find the number 420 in the box, they should find out that it was composed by the cards with the numbers 4, 2, and 0.
At the end of the activity, each group will present to the class the "Adventures in the Land of Numbers" they experienced, showing the numbers they composed and decomposed. In addition, each student must submit a written report explaining the strategies they used to compose and decompose the numbers, and what they learned from the activity.
