Hello, class! Today we are going to explore the world of multiplication by 2, 3, 4, and 5. But before that, let's talk a little about the importance of multiplication and how it is present in our daily lives.

Multiplication is a very useful mathematical operation that helps us gather groups of things, for example, when we have 3 boxes with 2 pencils each, we can use multiplication (3x2) to find out that we have 6 pencils in total.

Have you ever stopped to think about how many situations in your daily life involve multiplication? Let's see some examples:

  1. When you go to the market with your parents and they buy 4 packs of cookies, with 5 cookies in each pack, how many cookies will you take home?

  2. Imagine you have 3 friends and each of them has 2 different toys, how many toys do you have together?

  3. If you have 4 boxes of colored pencils with 3 pencils each, how many colored pencils do you have in total?

Multiplication is all around us, isn't it amazing? It is used in daily situations, at work, at school, on trips, in games, and much more. That's why it's very important for us to learn and understand how it works.

Now that we understand the importance of multiplication, let's embark on a fun and challenging journey to explore this concept further. Are you ready? Let's go!

Practical Activity: 'Multiplicative Adventure'

Project Objective

The objective of our project is to explore and deepen the concept of multiplication by 2, 3, 4, and 5 in a fun and creative way. In addition, we will develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, communication, time management, and creative thinking.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to create a 'Multiplicative Adventure' using recyclable materials. This adventure will be a board game where participants will have to solve multiplication problems.

Required Materials

  • Cardboard or cardstock for the board
  • Paints, markers, or colored pencils for board decoration
  • Dice (can be made of paper)
  • Player pieces (can be made with bottle caps, buttons, etc.)
  • Cards with different multiplication situations (example: 'You have 3 packs of candies and each pack has 4 candies. How many candies do you have in total?')
  • Score sheets

Step by Step

  1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will be responsible for creating a game.

  2. Board Drawing: Each group will draw its board. The board should contain spaces for players to move and also spaces for multiplication cards.

  3. Board Decoration: Students will decorate the board with paints, markers, or colored pencils.

  4. Creation of Dice and Pieces: Students will create the dice and pieces for the game. The dice should have numbers from 1 to 6 and the pieces can be made with bottle caps, buttons, among other recyclable materials.

  5. Development of Multiplication Cards: Each group will create 20 multiplication cards with various situations.

  6. Game Rules: Students will create the game rules. Remember, the game should involve solving multiplication problems.

  7. Testing and Adjustments: After finishing the game, each group will test and adjust the rules, if necessary.

  8. Game Presentation: Finally, each group will present their game to the class. The presentation should include a demonstration of how the game is played and how the multiplication situations are solved.
