Plants and animals are very important living beings for life on Earth. They are part of everything that surrounds us and play fundamental roles in our ecosystems. Therefore, knowing the characteristics of these organisms is essential for us to understand how life on Earth happens and how we can take better care of our planet.

Introduction

In this adventure, we will understand the differences and similarities between plants and animals. By getting to know these living beings, we will realize that, despite being quite different, plants and animals also have many things in common. For example, did you know that both animals and plants need water to survive? We will start our project by exploring these and other interesting topics!

We will study the main physical characteristics of plants, such as leaves, flowers, roots, and fruits. We will take a look at the different types of plants that exist - from small herbs to large oak trees. Did you know that there are plants that eat insects? They are carnivorous plants, and we will get to know them too!

On the other hand, we will get to know the animals, their characteristics, and their habitats. Do you know the difference between a mammal and a reptile? And between an amphibian and a bird? We will discover all of this and much more. Let's explore the animal diversity, from the domesticated animals we have at home to the wild animals that inhabit forests, deserts, and oceans.

This project will be a journey of discoveries, where each of you will be a little scientist, exploring, investigating, and learning. We hope you have as much fun as we will have guiding you on this journey! Nature is full of surprises and wonders, and we are excited to discover them together!

Practical Activity: Journey through the World of Plants and Animals

Project Objective

Our mission will be to create a 'Garden of Discoveries' in the classroom, where groups of young scientists will set up displays about plants and animals they choose to investigate. This task will help us understand the characteristics of plants and animals, recognize their differences and similarities, and stimulate our critical thinking and teamwork skills.

Project Description

Each group (3 to 5 students) will be responsible for choosing a plant and an animal to be the protagonists of their display. The young scientists will have the task of researching, collecting information and materials, and creating a display space that shows the characteristics, differences, and similarities between the chosen plant and animal.

These are the steps each group should follow:

Step 1: Choosing the Plant and the Animal

Each group will choose a plant and an animal to research. They can be plants and animals that the students already know or are curious to learn more about.

Step 2: Research

The groups should research about the chosen plant and animal. Where do they live? What are their physical characteristics? What do they eat? How do they reproduce? Do they have anything in common?

Step 3: Collecting Materials

The groups will collect materials such as images, leaves, flowers, seeds, or any other object that can help represent the chosen plant and animal. (Remember to ask for adult supervision, if necessary).

Step 4: Setting up the Display

Now, it's time to let creativity shine! With the gathered materials, the groups will create their display in the 'Garden of Discoveries'. They can use boxes, cardboard, paper, colored pens, or any other available material to set up an attractive and informative space that shows everything they have learned about the plant and the animal.

Step 5: Presentation

Finally, each group will present their display to the rest of the class. During the presentation, the students will also ask questions to the other groups about their discoveries. This step is important for us to practice communication, proactivity, and learn even more about the world of plants and animals.

Necessary Materials

• Paper, pens, pencils, scissors, and glue
• Photos, leaves, flowers, or other items representing the plant and the animal (always with adult supervision)
• Boxes, cardboard, or other materials to create the display
