In Portuguese, we use suffixes to form the augmentative and diminutive of words. Suffixes are small parts that we add to the end of words to change their meaning. For example, we can add the suffix '-ão' to form the augmentative of many words, or the suffix '-inho' to form the diminutive.

Moreover, there are also other ways to express the augmentative and diminutive, such as using different words, repeating syllables, among others. Each of these forms has its own way of being used, and this can vary according to the region where Portuguese is spoken.

Project Description:

In this project, you, in groups of 3 to 5 students, will become 'Detectives of the Portuguese Language'! Your mission will be to investigate and discover the augmentatives and diminutives present in our everyday words. For that, you will create a very special dictionary, full of words in the augmentative and diminutive forms.

Required Materials:

• A4 paper or notebook for notes
• Pencil, pen, eraser, colored pencils
• Dictionary (can be online)
• Sheets of paper for the creation of the dictionary (you can use the format you prefer, it can be a notebook or loose sheets that will be put together later)

Step by Step:

1. Group Formation: The teacher will form groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Detailed Explanation of the Project: The teacher will explain the activity in detail. Make sure everyone understands the task before proceeding.

3. Research: In your groups, you will research words that have augmentative and diminutive forms. Use the dictionary to assist in this search. Write down the words and their augmentative and diminutive forms on paper.

4. Creation of the Dictionary: With the words noted, it's time to create the dictionary. You can use creativity and make the dictionary very colorful! Remember to write the word, its meaning, and next to it, the augmentative and diminutive forms, if any.

5. Presentation of the Dictionary: Each group will present their dictionary to the class. Remember to explain what an augmentative and a diminutive are, and how they can be formed.
