Context
Introduction
In the world of arts, there is a multitude of ways to express and appreciate the beauty and human emotions. And three of these forms that you, STUDENTS, certainly love: games, play, and music. Have you ever thought about how these three things can connect and teach us about art?
Games and play are a universal language, used by all cultures around the world for children to have fun and learn. And music is no different. Melodies and rhythms are like a game for our ears, playing with the expectations and emotions we feel.
So, to better understand how games, play, and music are forms of art and how they connect, we have this incredible adventure to follow. Are you ready?
What We Bring to You
This project aims to bring a great discovery. Games, play, and music are not only ways for you to have fun, but they are also important learning and expression tools.
Music is a powerful art that stirs our emotions, brings us joy, calmness, emotion, through its melodies and rhythms. Have you ever noticed how some songs make you feel excited and others calm? This happens because each song has a different rhythm and melody.
Games and play, on the other hand, are very effective learning methods. They allow us to experience situations, solve problems, work in teams, all in a very fun way. Furthermore, games and play often have rules that we need to follow, just like in music, where we have to follow the rhythm for the music to sound good.
And what does all this have to do with art? A lot! Art is about expressing our feelings, our ideas, and also about appreciating the beauty of things. And games, play, and music, each in their own way, allow us to do that. So, how about exploring more about this subject together? Follow along with us!
Practical Activity
Activity Title: "Creating Our Own Playful Orchestra"
Project Objective:
This project aims to explore the relationship between music, games, and play. Through this activity, students will appropriate elements of music such as rhythm and melody, as well as exercise socio-emotional skills, such as communication, teamwork, and time management.
Detailed Project Description:
Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, will create a "playful orchestra". In this orchestra, each game represents a musical instrument and each group will have to create a melody with these "instruments". For this, students will need to think of a rhythm and a sequence for their game-instruments, just like in a song.
Required Materials:
- Various toys and objects found in the classroom or at home that produce different sounds (e.g. pot lids, cardboard boxes, plastic cups, etc.).
- Paper and pencils for notes.
Detailed Step-by-Step:
-
Group Formation: The teacher will divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.
-
Choosing the "Instruments": Each group must choose 3 to 5 toys or objects that produce different sounds to be their "instruments".
-
Creating the "Melody": With the "instruments" in hand, each group must create a sequence of sounds, in other words, a "melody", with their objects.
-
Note-taking: Once their melody is established, students should write down the sequence of sounds so they can remember later.
-
Rehearsals: After noting the sequence, it's time to practice. Each group must rehearse their melody.
-
Presentation: After the rehearsal time, each group will present their "playful orchestra" to the class.
-
Discussion: After all presentations, the class will discuss which aspects of each "orchestra" they liked the most and why, exploring aspects such as rhythm, harmony, and timbre.
Delivery Format:
The final result of the project will be the presentation of the "playful orchestra" to the class, followed by the discussion. In addition, each group must deliver to the teacher the notes they made about the sequence of their melody.
Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and learn together! Let's start creating our playful concert?
