Official Documents

Introduction

Contextualization

Hello, young historians! Today we will begin an incredible journey into the past to explore the fascinating world of 'Official Documents'. But before we start, it is necessary to understand the context in which these documents emerged. Have you ever stopped to think about how societies were organized in the past? How did they keep records of their laws, agreements, and important events?

Many years ago, before the invention of the printing press, photography, and the internet, people used written documents to record and communicate information. These documents were manuscripts, that is, written by hand, and were the main form of communication and record of events.

The Importance of Official Documents

Official documents are fundamental for the study of History. They are like windows that allow us to look into the past and understand how societies functioned. Through them, we can discover what the laws were like, who the rulers were, how the relationships between peoples were, and many other things.

But why is it so important to study official documents? Because they help us understand our own past and build a better future. When we analyze these documents, we can learn from the mistakes and successes of the past, and thus make more informed decisions in the present.

Lesson Objective

The objective of this activity is to allow you, young historians, to explore the world of official documents in a practical and fun way. You will create replicas of some of the most important documents in history, such as the Declaration of Independence of Brazil, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Magna Carta, among others.

Moreover, you will learn about the importance of these documents for our society and how they reflect the historical context in which they were created. So, get ready to embark on this incredible journey of discovery and learning!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: 'Archaeologists of the Past: Reconstructing Official Documents'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students, working in groups, to deepen their knowledge about official documents, their historical importance, and their influence on the formation of society. Additionally, it aims to develop socio-emotional skills, such as teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and creative thinking.

Detailed Project Description

In groups of 3 to 5 students, you will choose and reconstruct an important official document from history. You will research about this document, understand the context in which it was created, and finally, create a replica of that document.

Required Materials

  1. Sulfite paper or cardboard
  2. Pencils and erasers
  3. Colored pens or colored pencils
  4. Books, encyclopedias, internet (with the teacher's guidance)
  5. Glue
  6. Blunt scissors (under the supervision of the teacher or an adult)
  7. Old magazines for cutting (optional)
  8. Decoration materials (glitter, sequins, ribbons, etc. - optional)

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Choosing the Official Document: Each group must choose an official document to study and recreate. It can be the Declaration of Independence of Brazil, the Constitution of a country, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the Magna Carta, etc. The teacher must approve the choice.

  2. Research: Using books, encyclopedias, and the internet (under the teacher's supervision), the group must research about the chosen document. You should understand the content of this document, when and where it was created, why it is considered important, and how it influenced society.

  3. Historical Contextualization: After the research, the groups must think about the historical context in which the document was created. What was happening in the world at that time? What were the main issues and conflicts? How could these events have influenced the content of the document?

  4. Creating the Replica: Based on the research and historical contextualization, the groups must create a replica of the chosen document. This can be done on a sheet of sulfite paper or cardboard. You can use colored pens, colored pencils, magazine cutouts, and other materials to decorate the replica and make it as similar as possible to the original document.

  5. Presentation: Finally, each group must present their replica to the class, explaining about the document, the context in which it was created, and why it is considered important. The presentation should be creative and engaging!

Delivery Format

Each group must deliver the replica of the official document created, along with a brief explanatory text (1 to 2 pages), telling about the research conducted, the historical context, and the importance of the chosen document.

Remember, creativity and dedication will be valued! The important thing is that you have fun while learning about the importance of official documents in the history of humanity.
