But do you know how to correctly read the time on a clock? That's what we're going to find out in this incredible project!

To begin, we need to understand that a clock is a tool that helps us measure time. It is composed of several parts, but the most important for us now are the hands: the hour hand, the minute hand, and the second hand. Each of them has a different size and speed, and together they form a system that shows us the hours, minutes, and seconds.

Introduction

The Hour Hand

The hour hand is the shortest of all and moves more slowly. It completes one full rotation on the clock in 12 hours. For example, when the hour hand is pointing to the number 12, it means it is 12 o'clock. When it is pointing to the number 6, it means it is 6 o'clock.

The Minute Hand

The minute hand is longer than the hour hand and moves faster. It completes one full rotation on the clock in 60 minutes. When this hand is pointing to the number 12, it means it is 0 minutes (i.e., when an hour begins). When it is pointing to the number 6, it means 30 minutes have already passed within that hour.

The Second Hand

The second hand is the longest of all and moves even faster. It completes one full rotation on the clock in 60 seconds. Because it is very fast, it is difficult to keep up with the movement of this hand, so we usually focus on the minute hand.

Now that we know how each hand behaves on the clock, we can read the hours correctly. Reading a clock is a very important and useful skill that we use in our daily lives. And that's what we're going to improve in this project. Ready for the time travel? Let's go!

Practical Activity: 'Adventure in Time'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to develop the skill of reading analog clocks, promoting teamwork, logical-mathematical reasoning, and time management skills.

Project Description

You, little time travelers, will be tasked with creating a large analog clock on the schoolyard floor! But that's not all, you will also have the task of correctly reading the time shown on the clock.

Each group will be responsible for drawing and painting a giant clock on the floor, and during the week, every day, the clock will have a new position of the hands, and you will have to write down the time the clock is showing in a notebook.

At the end of the week, each group will have to present to the class all the readings they made during the days. The whole class will be the jury and will decide which group did the best job!

Necessary Materials

• Colored chalk
• Adhesive tape
• Ruler
• Tape measure
• Pencil and eraser
• Notebook for notes

Step by Step

1. Formation of Groups: Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will have its own 'Adventure in Time'!

2. Clock Planning: Discuss as a group how the design of the giant clock on the floor will be. Remember it should have the number 12 at the top, the number 6 in the middle, and so on. Use the adhesive tape and tape measure to draw a very large circle and, inside it, draw the numbers.

3. Creation of the Hands: Now it's time to create the hands. Use the tape measure to measure the size of each one and the ruler to draw straight lines. Remember that the hour hand is the smallest, the minute hand is medium, and the second hand is the largest.

4. Time Games: Every day during the week, the teacher will change the position of the clock hands and you will have to write down the time the clock is showing in the notebook.

5. Time Management: In addition to reading the clock, you will have to write down the time you spent on each activity. This way, you will be able to see how time passed and what you did during the week.

6. Final Presentation: At the end of the week, each group will present to the class the notes they made in the notebook. You will explain how you read the hours each day and what you learned from this 'Adventure in Time'.
