Have you ever stopped to think about how the city you live in was built? And where does the food you eat every day come from? All of this is directly linked to land uses. When we use the soil intelligently, we can ensure that we will have cities with the services we need and food to feed everyone.
However, if we don't take care of our soil, we can have many problems. For example, when we use too much soil to build buildings and roads, there may be a lack of space to plant food. Also, if we don't take care of the soil, it can become dry and infertile, making it difficult for plants to grow.

Practical Activity: 'Taking Care of Our Soil'
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to understand the different land uses (agricultural, urban, and natural) and how they interact with each other. In addition, students will explore the importance of taking care of the soil and how it affects our daily lives.
Project Description
In this project, students will create a 'Map of Our Neighborhood', representing the different land uses they find in their surroundings. Additionally, they will research and present about the importance of each type of land use and how we can take care of it.
Materials Needed
- Cardboards or large cardboard
- Pencils, colored pens, crayons
- Magazines and newspapers for cutting out
- Glue and scissors
- Internet access for research (supervised by adults)
Step by Step

Group Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be responsible for a fictional neighborhood.

Research: With the help of an adult, research the land uses (agricultural, urban, and natural) and the importance of each one. Take note of the most important information.

Map of Our Neighborhood: Draw on a large cardboard or cardboard the map of your fictional neighborhood, including roads, houses, buildings, parks, rivers, etc. Use the research done on land uses to create the correct representation on the map.
