In this project, we will explore the concept of 'Sound Improvisation'. But what is improvisation? To improvise means to create something suddenly, without prior preparation. In music, improvisation is the art of creating melodies, harmonies, and rhythms without a defined script, just following our creativity and intuition.
Although it may seem easy, improvisation is a skill that requires practice and understanding. To improvise, we need to know different musical styles, scales, chords, sounds, and of course, we need to have a good dose of courage to take risks in the unknown! But don't worry, I am here to guide you on this journey.
Contextualization
Our lives are full of sounds, from the singing of birds at dawn to the rain hitting the window on a cold night. Have you ever stopped to think about how these sounds can be musical? In this project, we will discover how to use the sounds of our daily lives to create improvised music!
Sound improvisation is a very common practice in various musical genres, such as jazz, rock, and even in some styles of classical music. Great musicians, like Louis Armstrong, Jimi Hendrix, and even Beethoven, were masters of improvisation, and it is from this skill that the magic of their compositions comes. Now it's our turn to explore this sound universe and create our own improvised compositions!

Practical Activity: 'Music of Our Daily Life'
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to create an improvised musical composition with the sounds of our daily life, stimulating creativity, active listening, and collaboration among students.
Project Description
Divided into groups of 3 to 5 students, you will create a 'Music of Our Daily Life'. This music will be entirely created by you, based on the sounds you find at home, at school, or in nature.
Each group will be responsible for selecting the sounds, organizing them in a sequence that makes sense to you, rehearsing, and finally presenting the composition to the whole class!
Necessary Materials
To carry out this project, you will need:
- Paper and pencil to write down ideas and create the composition's script.
- Recording devices (such as a cell phone, for example) to record the sounds you find.
- Improvised musical instruments, which can be everyday objects: a pot and a wooden spoon, a rattle made with rice grains in a plastic bottle, a whistle, etc.
Step by Step

Explore and collect sounds: In this first stage, each group should explore the surroundings to collect interesting sounds. You can record the sound of birds, the noise of a closing door, the falling rain, the sound of a blender, etc. Be creative and do not limit yourselves!

Analysis of sounds: After collecting sounds, the groups should listen to the recordings and think about how these sounds can be organized into a musical composition. You can repeat the same sound several times, mix different sounds, create a sequence, etc.

Script and rehearsal: Based on the analysis of the sounds, each group should create a 'script' for the composition. In other words, write on paper the sequence in which the sounds will occur in the music. Then, it's time to rehearse! Remember, improvisation is welcome in this part!

Presentation: After rehearsing a lot, each group will present their 'Music of Our Daily Life' to the whole class. Don't forget to explain to your classmates the choice of sounds and how you organized the composition.
Delivery Format
Each group must submit a short report with the script of the 'Music of Our Daily Life' and an audio or video recording of the composition presentation. Remember that the most important thing is participation, creativity, and fun during the project!
