Contextualization
Introduction
Hello, adventurers of the English language! Welcome to a journey full of learning and fun. Today we will explore the Vocabulary of the Family Core in English. But what is a family core?
The family core is a group formed by people who have a relationship with each other. These people can be parents, siblings, grandparents, uncles, cousins, and even pets. Each person within the family core has a role (or function) to play. For example, parents are usually responsible for taking care of their children, teaching them, and protecting them.
On the other hand, siblings are playmates, study partners, and help each other. Grandparents, often the oldest in the family core, have many experiences to share. And uncles and cousins, even if they don't live together, are also part of the family core and often meet on special occasions, such as parties and holidays.
The Importance of the Family Core Vocabulary
Knowing the family core vocabulary is essential for communication, as it helps us talk about our own family and understand other people's families. Additionally, by knowing the words that refer to family members, we can establish relationships and express feelings more effectively. For example, if you know the term 'brother' in English, you can use it to refer to a brother or a very close friend.
The words we learn today are also very useful when telling stories and sharing our experiences with others. And, of course, we cannot forget that the family core vocabulary is an important part of our daily lives. After all, we all have a family, don't we?
So, are you ready to embark on this adventure? Let's go!
Practical Activity: 'My Family Tree'
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to develop communication and collaboration skills while practicing the family core vocabulary in English. Students will have to create a family tree of their families, identifying and naming the members in English.
Project Description
Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will be invited to create a 'My Family Tree.' Each student must identify and name at least 5 members of their family in English, including father, mother, siblings, grandparents, uncles, cousins, and pets if they wish. They must then draw this family tree on paper and present it to the class, explaining who the family members are and what each one's role is.
Necessary Materials
- A4 paper or cardboard
- Colored pencils or markers
- English-Portuguese dictionary (optional, in case they need help with translation)
Step by Step
-
Group Formation: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be a team that will build their own family tree.
-
Brainstorming: Each group member should list the names of their family members in English. If they have difficulty, they can use the dictionary.
-
Planning: Together, the students must decide how they will draw the family tree. It can be a traditional tree with branches and leaves, or a more creative representation. The important thing is that all family members are represented and identified in English.
-
Drawing and Identification: With the plan in hand, students start drawing the family tree and identifying each family member in English. They can use colored pencils or markers to make the drawing more beautiful and colorful.
-
Presentation: Each group, in the next class, must present their family tree. Students should talk about each family member, their relationship with them, and the role they play.
At the end of the project, students will have the opportunity to practice speaking in English, creativity in drawing the family tree, and teamwork in collaborating with classmates on the project.
Delivery Format
Each group must deliver their drawn family tree, identifying the family members in English. Additionally, students must prepare an oral presentation, where they talk about each family member and the role they play.
Remember, creativity is very welcome! You can use drawings, photos, stickers, and whatever else you want to make the presentation even more interesting.
Good luck, adventurers, and have fun learning!
