This is what we call environmental degradation. But the good news is that we can also do good things to help conserve the environment!

Have you heard of global warming, air pollution, deforestation, animal extinction, garbage in the oceans? These are just a few examples of problems we currently face. But what can we do to change this reality?

Introduction

Environmental conservation is the practice of protecting our planet and all living beings that inhabit it. This includes taking care of plants, animals, rivers, seas, and also our natural resources, such as water and air.

To understand how we can conserve the environment, it is important to know how it works. The environment is formed by different elements that interact and influence each other. For example, trees produce oxygen, which is essential for the life of all living beings. Rivers are sources of fresh water, which is fundamental for our survival.

On the other hand, environmental degradation occurs when these elements are harmed in some way. For example, when trees are cut down in large quantities, we can have a decrease in oxygen and an increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which contributes to global warming. Or when garbage is thrown into rivers, it can contaminate the water and harm the animals living in it.

Practical Activity: "Guardians of the Environment"

Project Objective

This project aims to raise awareness among students about the importance of environmental conservation and the role of each one in this process. Additionally, it aims to develop skills such as teamwork, time management, communication, creativity, and problem-solving.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 people, will be challenged to create an "Ecological Board Game". The game should address different environmental scenarios, where players will have to make choices that help conserve the environment or avoid degradation. Each group will be responsible for creating the board, the rules, and the challenges of the game.

Required Materials

• Cardboard or poster board for the base of the board
• Colored markers
• Pencils and erasers
• Ruler
• Dice
• Game pieces (can be made with recyclable materials, such as bottle caps or cardboard)

Step by Step

1. Group Formation: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.

2. Study and Planning: Each group should study different situations involving the conservation and degradation of the environment. They can research on the internet, textbooks, or ask the teacher for help.

3. Game Creation: With the information gathered, the groups must create their "Ecological Board Game". They should draw a board with different environmental scenarios and think of challenges and choices that players will have to face. For example, a challenge could be "You come across a beach full of garbage, what do you do? A) Leave the garbage there and move on or B) Collect the garbage and place it in the appropriate location". The goal is for the choices to lead to the conservation or degradation of the environment.

4. Rule Elaboration: Each group must write the rules of their game. The rules should be clear and easy to understand. They should also define how many players can participate and what the objective of the game is.

5. Game Making: After defining the rules, the groups must make the game. They can use cardboard or poster board to make the base of the board, markers to draw the scenery, and dice and game pieces to play.

6. Presentation and Game: At the end of the project, each group must present their game to the class. They should explain the rules and the objective of the game and conduct a match so that everyone can play and learn more about the conservation and degradation of the environment.

In the end, evaluate not only the final product but also the process of teamwork, creativity in the game development, and the ability to relate the concepts of conservation and degradation of the environment in the game situations.
