Hello, dear students! Have you ever thought about how many things in our lives are natural? A fruit we pick from a tree, for example, is natural. And what about a number like 27? It is also considered a natural number, but this time in Mathematics.
In this project, we will learn about Natural Numbers and how they behave in reading and comparison. Natural numbers are the numbers we use for counting and they are infinite (1, 2, 3, 4, 5...). But don't worry, we will focus on natural numbers smaller than 100,000, which is already a very large number!
Introduction
Reading and comparing natural numbers are essential skills in mathematics. Knowing how to read and compare numbers helps us better understand the world around us. For example, when you read a time, you are reading and comparing numbers. When you compare the price of two toys, you are also comparing numbers.
To read natural numbers, we break them down into smaller parts, called digits, and read each digit separately. For example, the number 27 is read as 'twenty-seven'. When comparing natural numbers, we use the symbols greater than (>), less than (<), and equal to (=). For example, 27 < 30, because 27 is less than 30.
In our daily lives, reading and comparing natural numbers is very useful. It helps us understand time, money, quantities, and many other things. That's why it's important for us to learn and practice this skill.
Importance
Understanding how to read and compare natural numbers is fundamental for various areas of our daily lives. In everyday life, we use this skill to read the clock, to buy products at the supermarket, to understand the score of a game, and even to deal with money.

Practical Activity: 'Exploring Natural Numbers'
Project Objective
The objective of this project is to allow students to practice reading and comparing natural numbers smaller than 100,000, while collaborating in groups, developing time management skills, and enhancing their interpersonal skills.
Project Description
Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will create a 'Natural Number Comparison Game'. Each group will create a game board with cards of natural numbers smaller than 100,000 and comparison challenges. The game will be tested and played by all groups in the class.
Required Materials
- Cardboard or cardstock for the game board
- Paper for number and challenge cards
- Pencils, pens, ruler, glue, and scissors
- Markers or colored pencils to decorate the board and cards
Step by Step

Group Formation: Form groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group will be responsible for creating a game.

Board Preparation: Each group should draw and decorate their game board on cardboard or cardstock. The board should have a path for players to move along, from a starting point to a finish point.

Card Creation: Students should create 20 number cards and 10 challenge cards. Each number card should have a natural number smaller than 100,000, and each challenge card should have a comparison of natural numbers. For example, a challenge card could say '27 > 23' or '37 = 37'.

Game Testing: Each group should test their game before presenting it to the class. They should check if the rules are clear, if the game is fun to play, and if it is a good challenge for reading and comparing natural numbers.

Game Presentation: Each group should present their game to the class. They should explain the rules, show the board and cards, and demonstrate how the game is played.

Group Game: After the presentations, the groups will divide into teams and play each of the games created. In each round, players should read the numbers on the cards and compare them according to the challenge on the card.
