Introduction

Mathematics is a discipline that helps us understand and solve problems in our daily lives. It is present in many situations, such as when we need to count objects, divide a pizza, or calculate the distance between two places. And one of the most useful tools that mathematics offers us are the operations of multiplication and division.

Multiplication is repeated addition. For example, if we have 3 boxes of chocolates, each with 4 bonbons, we can add 4 three times: 4 + 4 + 4 = 12. But we can also multiply: 3 x 4 = 12. Division, on the other hand, is the opposite of multiplication. It is a way to distribute or divide something into equal parts. For example, if we have 12 bonbons and we want to divide them equally among 3 people, each will receive 4 bonbons. And we can do the division: 12 ÷ 3 = 4.

Application

The operations of multiplication and division are very useful in many situations in our daily lives. For example, when we go to the supermarket, we need to multiply to know the total price of the products. If a pack of cookies costs $2.00 and we want to take 3 packs, we can multiply: 3 x 2 = 6. Therefore, the total price will be $6.00.

Division helps us to share or distribute things equally. For example, if we have 12 candies and we want to divide them equally among 4 friends, each will receive 3 candies. We can do the division: 12 ÷ 4 = 3.

Now, imagine how difficult it would be to solve these situations without the help of multiplication and division operations? It would be very complicated, wouldn't it? That's why it is very important to learn these operations well, so that we can use them in our daily lives and also in our studies.

Detailed Project Description:

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to plan a great trip around the world! Each group will have to choose 5 different countries, research the population of each country, the number of days they want to spend in each place, and the daily cost of living. With this data, they will perform multiplication and division calculations to determine the total number of days of the trip, the total amount of money needed, and the fair division among the group members.

• Internet access for research
• Paper or notebook for notes
• Pencil, eraser, and ruler

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.

2. Country Selection: Each group must choose 5 different countries to visit during the trip.

3. Research: Using the internet or books, groups must research the population of each country, the number of days they wish to spend in each place, and the daily cost of living in each country.

4. Calculations: With the collected data, groups must perform the necessary calculations to determine the total number of days of the trip, the total amount of money needed, and the division of money among the group members.

5. Recording and Presentation: Groups must record all collected information and calculations on paper or notebook. In addition, they must prepare a presentation for the class, explaining the choices made, the calculations performed, and the results obtained.

Delivery Format:

The project will be delivered in two parts: the written record and the oral presentation. The written record must contain the information collected during the research, the calculations performed, and the results obtained. The oral presentation must be made by the group to the class, explaining all the project steps.
