Hands-on Activity

Activity Title: "Prevention Champions"

Goal of the Project

To foster an understanding of the importance of disease prevention, and encourage research, creativity, teamwork, and presentation about effective ways of preventing diseases.

Detailed Description of the Project

In this project, student teams will research, design and present a "Disease Prevention Poster". Each poster is dedicated to a specific disease, and educates about ways to prevent that disease. Developing skills such as research, writing, drawing, time management, collaboration, and oral presentation.

Materials Required

1. Chart papers or cardboard
2. Colour pens, pencils, markers
3. Magazines or printed pictures relevant to the chosen topics (optional)
4. Glue, scissors (if using printed pictures)
5. Internet access for research (to be monitored by an adult)

Step-by-Step Instructions for the Activity

1. Forming the Teams: Students will divide themselves into teams of 3-5 members. Each team chooses a team name.

2. Selecting the Diseases: Each team needs to select two common diseases to research and present on their poster. Diseases could include common cold, flu, dengue, malaria, rotavirus, etc.

3. Researching the Diseases: Each group researches about their selected diseases. They will find out what causes the disease, how it spreads and what are its symptoms. Additionally, they should find out effective ways of prevention.

4. Designing and Creating the Poster: Based on their research, the students will design a "Disease Prevention Poster" for each of their chosen diseases. The poster should have illustrations, images (if desired), and explanatory text about the disease and ways to prevent it.

5. Presenting the Posters: Each team will present their posters to the class. During their presentation, students will explain the information included on their poster, and answer questions from their peers or the teacher.

6. Displaying the Posters: Once all teams have presented, their posters will be put up on display around the classroom, so everyone can read and learn about the different diseases and prevention methods.
