Project Description

Students, organized in groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to create a 'Spelling Memory Game'. The game will consist of cards with words that follow the basic spelling rules we have learned. Each pair of cards will have a word and an image representing that word.

Required Materials

• Cardboard (or thicker paper)
• Colored pencils, markers, crayons
• Blunt scissors
• Glue
• Dictionary (optional, for reference)

Step by Step

1. The groups should discuss and choose, at least, three pairs of words that follow the spelling rules seen in class (example: 's' and 'z', 'why' and 'because', 'sc' and 'xc').

2. For each pair of words, students should create an image representing the word and write the word correctly on a piece of cardboard. Remember to do this for both words in the pair.

3. After all the words are ready, students should cut the cardboard into memory game cards. Each pair of words should have a card.

4. Now it's time to decorate the cards! Students can use colored pencils, markers, crayons to make the cards colorful and fun.

5. Finally, the groups should test the game they created. Each student, in their turn, flips two cards. If the words on the cards form a pair that follows one of the spelling rules, the student keeps the cards. If not, the cards are turned back over, and the game continues.

Delivery Format

Each group must deliver the created 'Spelling Memory Game'. Along with the game, each student should write a short report (5 to 10 lines) telling which words were chosen and why, and what they learned from the activity.
