Visual Arts is a set of artistic expressions, such as painting, sculpture, drawing, printmaking, among others, which focus on creating visually appealing works. They are artifacts created by human beings which represent expressions of imagination or interpretations of reality.

It is the creation of forms and images which express emotions, ideas, experiences, and our comprehension of the world. Visual Arts have the power to transport us to different places and times, to make us feel intense emotions and to make us perceive reality in a different way.

Visual Arts is a vast and diverse field, which permeates all aspects of life, from the world of publicity to architecture and design. In the scholar context, art helps to develop creativity, critical thinking, and the ability to solve problems.

Art is a powerful form of expression and communication. Each artwork is unique and carries with it the artist's perspective. At the same time, art is a shared experience. It creates a space for dialogue, debates, and collective learning.

Art can be both a reflection of society and a catalyst for social change. It holds the power to criticize, question, and challenge social and political norms.

In order to delve further into this fascinating world of Visual Arts, we suggest some resources in Portuguese:

• Book "Artes visuais: Pra que te quero?", by Bárbara Muine and Anna Hoetjes. This book offers an interesting and accessible introduction to Visual Arts.
• Website of the Pinacoteca de São Paulo, especially the "Education" section. In it, one can find many activities and didactic materials about art.
• YouTube Channel "Arte que Acontece", which explores diverse forms of Visual Arts, their artists, and their works.

Practical Activities: "Framed Art: An Exploration of Visual Arts"

Objective of the Project:

The objective of this activity is to allow students to explore, identify, and appreciate various forms of traditional and contemporary Visual Arts, stimulating creativity, teamwork, and active learning.

Detailed Description of the Project:

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people and each group will be responsible for creating an "Art Gallery" in exhibition format. The exhibition should include the creation of their own pieces of art inspired by different artistic styles and periods, as well as a report describing and reflecting on the creation and learning process.

Required Materials:

• A3 paper or drawing paper
• Color pencils, markers, crayons, etc.
• Scissors
• Glue
• Clay (optional for sculpture)
• Paint and paintbrushes (optional for painting)

Detailed Step-by-Step of the Activity:

1. Research: Each group must research different styles and periods of Visual Arts. They can choose which styles they wish to explore. (Ex: Modern Art, Renaissance, Pop Art, etc.)
2. Creation: Students must create their own pieces of art inspired by the styles they researched. The pieces of art can be drawings, paintings, sculptures, or any other form of Visual Arts that the students feel comfortable creating.
3. Documentation: While creating, students must document the creation process of their works, taking pictures, writing notes, and reflecting on challenges and discoveries.
4. Setting up the Exhibition: After creating the pieces, students must organize an exhibition in a space of the school, showing their works and providing information about the artistic style that inspired them.
5. Presentation: On the exhibition day, each group will make a brief presentation about their works, explaining the creation process, the challenges they faced, and what they learned.

Project Deliverables:

Besides the art exhibition, each group must produce a written report containing:

1. Introduction: Description of the chosen theme, its relevance and real-world application, and the objective of this project.
2. Development: Explanation of the theory behind the artistic style explored, detailed description of the activity, methodology used, and presentation and discussion of the results obtained (the artworks created).
3. Conclusion: Reflection about the main points of the project, what the students learned, and conclusions drawn from this work.
4. Bibliography: References of the resources used during the work on the project, such as books, websites, videos, etc.

The reports must be typed and presented in a document format (Word, Google Docs, etc.), to be handed to the teacher within a month of the project's start date. The report represents a crucial part of the project, as it allows students to reflect on their learning process, document their insights, and learn how to organize and present their ideas in a coherent and well-founded way.
