Quality of Life and Public Management

Introduction

Hello, knowledge explorers! We are about to embark on an incredible journey that will lead us to understand the importance of 'Quality of Life' and how 'Public Management' influences our lives. But what exactly do these terms mean?

Quality of Life refers to the individual or collective perception of well-being and satisfaction with life. It is influenced by various factors such as health, education, safety, environment, leisure, among others.

Public Management, in turn, is the set of actions and practices carried out by government officials in the administration of public resources, aiming to improve the quality of life of the population.

Public Management plays a crucial role in promoting quality of life, as it is responsible for providing and managing essential services to society, such as health, education, safety, transportation, among others. When done well, it contributes to the development of a more just, balanced society with a higher quality of life.

Contextualization

Let's imagine two cities: City A and City B. In City A, public management is efficient, basic services are of quality, the streets are clean and safe, and there are many leisure and cultural areas for the population. In City B, on the other hand, public management is deficient, basic services are lacking, the streets are dirty and dangerous, and there are no leisure options for the population.

Now, think: in which of these cities would you like to live? Certainly, most of us would choose City A, right? That's because the quality of life in City A is much higher than in City B, and this is due to the performance of public management.

In this project, we will understand how public management influences people's quality of life and how we can contribute to improving the reality of our community. In addition, we will learn about the importance of being active citizens, that is, actively participating in the management of our city. Are you ready for this incredible adventure? Let's go!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: 'City of Dreams: Building a Better City'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is for students, in groups, to develop a model of an ideal city, where public management is efficient and the quality of life is high. During the activity, students will understand the relationship between quality of life and public management, as well as experience teamwork, creativity, communication, and problem-solving.

Detailed Project Description

Each group will be responsible for planning, designing, and building a model of a city of dreams. Students should consider all aspects involving quality of life and public management, such as health, education, leisure, transportation, safety, environment, among others.

The model should be built with recyclable materials, promoting the concept of sustainability and respect for the environment. In addition, students should create a brief description of the main points of the city, explaining how they contribute to the quality of life of the population.

Groups will have one month to complete the activity. Each week, they should present the progress of the project to the class, sharing what they have done and what they still intend to do. At the end of the month, the models will be presented to the entire school, allowing students to share their ideas and learnings.

Required Materials

  • Recyclable materials (cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, toilet paper rolls, etc.)
  • Cardboard paper
  • Blunt scissors
  • Glue
  • Paints, brushes, and markers
  • Magazines for cutting
  • A4 paper sheets to write the city description

Step by Step

  1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.

  2. Group Research: Each group should research the importance of public management for people's quality of life. They can use textbooks, encyclopedias, reliable websites, and other research materials.

  3. Planning the City of Dreams: Groups should plan their city of dreams, considering all aspects involving quality of life and public management. They can make a draft on paper before starting the model construction.

  4. Building the Model: With the help of recyclable materials, students will build the model of the city of dreams. They should organize themselves so that each member has a task and everyone participates in the construction.

  5. City Description: Students should write a brief description of the city they built, explaining how it is managed and how this contributes to the quality of life of the population. They can use words and drawings to illustrate the description.

  6. Project Presentation: During the model construction process, groups will have to present the project progress to the class, explaining what they have done and what they still intend to do. At the end of the month, they will present the model and the description to the entire school.

Remember, creativity is very important in this project! Use your imagination and make the most of this experience. We are excited to see the city of dreams you will create!
