Hello, dear students! Today we will embark on an exciting and very important adventure: deepening our knowledge about the 'Environment: Characteristics'. But what does that mean? Well, the environment is everything that surrounds us, where we live, study, and play. It is nature with its plants, animals, rivers, seas, mountains, and also the city with its buildings and people. Therefore, it is essential for us to understand how our environment is formed and how we can take care of it.

Geography, our discipline, is the science that studies our planet Earth, from its formation to the human actions that transform the environment. It helps us understand how natural features, such as mountains, rivers, forests, influence the lives of humans and other living beings.

Introduction

The environment is a complex system, formed by various interconnected elements. Each of these elements plays an important role in maintaining life on Earth. Let's highlight some of them:

1. Biomes: They are large sets of ecosystems that have similar characteristics, such as climate, vegetation, and fauna. In Brazil, for example, we have the Amazon Rainforest, the Cerrado, the Atlantic Forest, among others.

2. Hydrosphere: It is the part of the Earth that encompasses all forms of water, whether in rivers, lakes, seas, or underground aquifers. Water is essential for the life of all living beings.

3. Climate: It is the set of atmospheric conditions that characterize a region throughout the year, such as temperature, humidity, and precipitation (rain). Climate directly influences the vegetation and fauna of a region.

4. Soil: It is the Earth's surface layer that provides nutrients and shelter for plants and various animals. Soil quality is essential for food production and biodiversity maintenance.

Practical Activity: 'Environmental Explorers'

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to deepen students' knowledge about the characteristics of the environment, realize the importance of each of these elements, and develop socio-emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.

Project Description

Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5 members, will create an 'Environmental Map' of a region of their choice. In this map, they should represent the four elements that make up the environment (biomes, hydrosphere, climate, and soil), identifying their main characteristics and the relationship between them.

Required Materials

• Cardboard or large kraft paper for map making
• Colored pencils, markers, crayons, gouache paint, brushes
• Old magazines, newspapers, dried tree leaves, old fabrics (recyclable materials for creating map elements)
• Blunt scissors, glue, tape

Project Steps

Step 1: Region Selection

Each group must choose a region to represent on their map. It can be a Brazilian biome (Amazon Rainforest, Caatinga, Cerrado, among others) or a region near the school.

Step 2: Research

Students, with the help of the teacher, should research the characteristics of the chosen location: climate, types of soil, animals and plants that live there, and the presence of rivers, lakes, seas, among others.

Step 3: Map Creation

Based on the research, students will draw the map of the chosen region on cardboard or kraft paper, using colored pencils, markers, crayons, or gouache paint.

Step 4: Creation of Environmental Elements

Using recyclable materials, students will create the environmental elements: plants, animals, rivers, mountains, etc. They should think about how to represent the characteristics of each of these elements.

Step 5: Map Assembly

After creating the environmental elements, students will place them on the map, thinking about the correct location of each one. They should also write the names of the elements (e.g., Amazon Rainforest, Amazon River, etc.) and their main characteristics.

Step 6: Project Presentation

Each group will present their 'Environmental Map' to the class, explaining the characteristics of the chosen region and the importance of each of the elements represented.

Delivery Format

The project will be delivered physically and orally. The Environmental Maps will be displayed in the classroom, and the presentation will be made in front of the class. Additionally, each group must submit a sheet containing a summary of the research conducted and a reflection on the importance of caring for the environment.
