But, although diversity is beautiful, we also face a challenge: social inequalities. Unfortunately, not all people are treated the same way. Some face more difficulties in life because of their ethnicity, race, or culture. This is what we call social inequalities.

Activity Title: 'Map of Cultural and Ethno-Racial Diversity'

Project Objective:

Detailed Project Description

Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will create a 'Map of Cultural and Ethno-Racial Diversity' of our community. In this map, they will identify and mark the locations where different ethnic-racial groups can be found. At each location, students will also investigate and present information about the culture and history of the group.

The idea is that, at the end of the project, students can not only better understand cultural and ethno-racial diversity but also reflect on the social inequalities that exist in our community. They will realize that some ethnic-racial groups may be more present in some places than in others, and that this may be related to issues of inequality.

Required Materials

1. Cardboard or large poster board.
2. Colored pencils, markers, crayons.
3. Glue stick and blunt scissors.
4. Magazines, newspapers, computer, and printer for research (under teacher supervision).
5. Digital camera or cell phone to record visits and interviews (with parental authorization and teacher supervision).
