Today, we have access to a variety of technologies that facilitate the study of history, from online search engines to data analysis software.

Language and technology go hand in hand and are integral parts of history. The way we communicate, how we learn about the past and how we use technology to facilitate these processes is fundamental to our understanding of the world.

Technology, with its evolution, has brought new ways to access and analyze information, transforming the way we study history.

This project aims to explore the relationship between language, technology and history, offering you, students, an opportunity to learn more about how these elements are interconnected and how they have shaped and continue to shape society as we know it.

Practical Activity: "Digital Historical Narratives"

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to practice the ability to understand the importance of language and technology in the study of history. To do this, groups will have to create a digital narrative about a specific historical period, using a variety of available language and technology.

Project Description

Each group will choose a moment in history to research and base their digital narrative on. The final product will be a slide presentation with texts, images, videos and, if possible, interactive elements. The choice of historical period should be made considering the availability of digital resources and the interest of the group. This activity will require prior research, selection of relevant digital resources, text writing and assembly of the presentation.

Materials Required

• Computer with internet access
• Presentation software (example: PowerPoint, Google Slides)
• Research materials (books, online articles, videos)

Step by Step

1. Group formation: Each group should be made up of 3 to 5 students.

2. Theme selection: Each group should choose a period in history to be the theme of their digital narrative.

3. Research: Conduct extensive research on the chosen topic. The research sources should be cited in the bibliography of the final report. Remember to also look for images, videos and other digital resources that can be used in your presentation.

4. Storyboarding: Based on the research carried out, create a storyboard for your presentation. The storyboard should include all the main events, figures and elements that you want to highlight in your narrative.

5. Presentation Creation: With the storyboard in hand, start assembling your presentation. Remember to use different forms of language (text, images, videos) and to explore the features of the presentation software.

6. Report Preparation: In parallel with the creation of the presentation, prepare the project report. The report should follow the following format: Introduction, Development, Conclusions and Bibliography.

7. Presentation: Present your work to the class. Each member of the group should participate in the presentation, explaining a part of the narrative.

Project Deliverables

In addition to the presentation, each group must submit a written report on the project. The report should contain an introduction to the chosen topic, a detailed description of the project development process, the conclusions obtained and the bibliography used.

In the report, the introduction should contextualize the chosen topic, its relevance and application in the real world as well as the objective of this project. In the development, students should explain the theory behind the central theme of the project, explain the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used and finally present and discuss the results obtained. At the end, they should conclude the work by reviewing their main points, explaining the lessons learned and the conclusions drawn about the project. Finally, the bibliography should indicate the sources on which they based themselves to work on the project, such as books, web pages, videos, etc.
