Contextualization
Hello, little historians! Are you ready for a journey through time? In this project, we will mix two things you love: technology and history. But how do they connect? Well, did you know that the language we use today is like a code? And that, just like in technology, it has also evolved over time? Fascinating, isn't it?
When we talk about language, we are not only referring to speaking and writing. Language can also be visual, like cave paintings, or gestural, like sign language. And, just like technology, language is a tool that humans use to communicate and express ideas. Now, let's combine these concepts and see how they apply to the study of history.
Introduction
In our study of history, we use language to read and interpret documents, such as letters, diaries, and books. And guess what? Technology helps us do this more efficiently. For example, have you ever heard of a dictionary? It is a tool we use to understand the meaning of words. And today, we have online dictionaries that can tell us the meaning of a word in a matter of seconds!
Now, imagine you are archaeologists and have discovered an ancient inscription. How would you understand what is written? Well, you could use a dictionary to translate the words. But what would you do if you didn't know the language? This is where technology comes into play. With the help of computers and programs, historians can analyze patterns in language and compare them with known languages to try to understand what is written. And this is just one example of how technology can help us better understand history.
Now, let's get to the point: our project! Let's explore how language and technology come together in the study of history. You will become 'linguistic archaeologists', researching the evolution of language and how it helps us understand the past. So, get ready, because the adventure is just beginning!
Practical Activity: 'Linguistic Archaeologists: Unveiling the Evolution of Language'
Project Objective
This project aims to allow students to understand the relationship between language, technology, and history. Through research and practical activities, students will explore the evolution of language, from the earliest forms of communication to written language, and how technology has contributed to the study of history.
Project Description
In this activity, students will form groups of 3 to 5 members to become 'Linguistic Archaeologists'. Each group will be responsible for researching and preparing a presentation on a specific period of language evolution. In addition, students will create an illustrated 'Historical Dictionary', where they will include words and expressions from the period studied.
Required Materials
- History and Portuguese language textbooks
- Internet access for research
- Paper and pencil for notes
- Cardboard paper or poster board for the 'Historical Dictionary'
- Colored pencils, markers, crayons for illustrations
- Glue and blunt scissors for assembling the 'Historical Dictionary'
Step by Step
Step 1: Group Formation and Period Selection
Students will gather in groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will choose a period of language history to research. The suggested periods are:
- Prehistory: The origin of language and the earliest forms of communication.
- Ancient Age: The evolution of language in antiquity, including the first forms of writing.
- Middle Ages: The influence of Latin and Greek on written language.
- Modern Age: The expansion of the Portuguese language and the emergence of new languages.
- Contemporary Age: The influence of new technologies on language.
Step 2: Research
Each group should conduct research on the chosen period. They can use textbooks, reliable websites, and even interview teachers or experts. It is important for students to take notes on important information during the research.
Step 3: Presentation Preparation
With the collected information, students will prepare a presentation for the class. They should include in the presentation:
- An introduction to the period studied and its relationship to the evolution of language.
- Examples of how language was used in that period.
- How technology has contributed to our knowledge of that period.
Step 4: Creation of the 'Historical Dictionary'
Students will create an illustrated 'Historical Dictionary' about the period studied. In this dictionary, they should include words and expressions from the time, along with their definitions and illustrations. The dictionary can be made on cardboard paper or poster board, and the words and illustrations can be hand-drawn or printed from the internet and glued.
Step 5: Presentation and Project Delivery
Each group will present their research and the 'Historical Dictionary' to the class. After the presentations, students will submit the dictionary for evaluation.
Delivery Format
The project will be delivered in two ways: through oral presentation and delivery of the 'Historical Dictionary'. The presentation will be evaluated based on the clarity of information, creativity in presentation, and teamwork skills. The 'Historical Dictionary' will be evaluated for the inclusion of relevant words and expressions, the accuracy of definitions, and the quality of illustrations.
Remember, little linguistic archaeologists, the most important thing is to have fun while learning!
