Hello, class! Have you ever stopped to think about how people in ancient times perceived the world around them? And how they related to the divine? In this project, we will dive into the fascinating world of Religion of Ancient Peoples.

Religion has been a very important part of human life since we have existed. It helps us answer complicated questions like where we come from, where we are going, what is the meaning of life, and how we should live. In this sense, the religion of ancient peoples is a window to understand how they saw the world and how they behaved in it.

Our study will focus on four main ancient religions: Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, and the Vikings. Each of these religions had its own deities, rituals, beliefs, and practices that were central to the lives of the people at that time.

Introduction

Let's start by understanding what religion is and its importance in society. Religion is a set of beliefs, practices, and rituals that guide people's lives. It can explain the origin of the world, the meaning of life, morality, and many other fundamental questions.

The religion of ancient peoples was very different from what we are used to today. For example, the Egyptians believed in many gods and goddesses, each responsible for a different part of life. The Greeks believed in many gods, but also in heroes and nymphs. For the Romans, many gods and goddesses were shared with the Greeks, but with different names. And the Vikings believed in a large number of gods and goddesses, who were directly involved in their daily lives.

Furthermore, ancient peoples expressed their religiosity through rituals and practices that were very different from what we have today. The Egyptians, for example, built pyramids and huge temples to honor their gods. The Greeks held festivals, sports competitions, and plays to honor their gods. And the Vikings held great feasts and battles to honor their gods.

Project Objective

The objective of this project is to allow students to dive into the universe of ancient peoples' religions, research their deities, rituals, and beliefs, and create a visual and oral presentation to share their learnings with the class.

Detailed Project Description

The groups of students will choose one of the four ancient religions (Ancient Egypt, Ancient Greece, Ancient Rome, or Vikings) and, based on research, will explore the following aspects of this religion:

1. Deities: Who were the main gods and goddesses of this religion? What were their characteristics and attributes?
2. Rituals and Festivals: What rituals and festivals were celebrated by these peoples to honor their gods? What happened in these rituals and festivals?
3. Beliefs: What were the fundamental beliefs of this religion? How did they influence the daily lives of the people?

Based on the research, the groups will create a visual and oral presentation to share their learnings with the class. The presentation should include images of the gods and goddesses, descriptions of the rituals and festivals, and explanations about the beliefs.

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution

1. Group Formation (1 class): Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 people. Each group will choose one of the four ancient religions to research.

2. Research (3 classes): The groups will research the chosen religion, focusing on the three aspects: deities, rituals and festivals, and beliefs. They should take note of the most important information to use in creating the presentation.

3. Presentation Creation (3 classes): The groups will create a visual and oral presentation to share their learnings. They should include images, explanatory texts, and, if possible, even small dramatizations of the rituals and festivals.

4. Presentation Preparation (2 classes): The groups will rehearse the presentation, preparing to explain each part to the class.

5. Presentation to the Class (1 class): The groups will present their work to the class. Each group will have 10 to 15 minutes to present. After all presentations, we will have a classroom discussion about what we have learned.

Delivery Format

The groups must deliver the visual presentation (can be a digital file or a paper sheet) and present orally to the class.
