Project Objective

The objective of this project is to explore and understand decimal numbers in a playful activity, where students can apply the concepts learned in a practical and fun way.

Detailed Project Description

Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members. Each group will have the task of creating a board game called "Adventure of Decimal Numbers".

The game's main objective is to help players understand and use decimal numbers. Players will advance through the board by answering questions and completing challenges related to decimal numbers.

Required Materials

  • Cardboard or cardboard for the board (size A3 or larger)
  • Colored pens, colored pencils, and markers
  • Dice
  • Player pieces or markers
  • Cards with questions and challenges about decimal numbers (created by the students)

Detailed Activity Steps

  1. Group Formation and Board Design: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students. Each group should draw their own board on cardboard or cardboard. The board should be colorful and have a path for the players to follow.

  2. Creation of Question and Challenge Cards: Students in each group should create cards with questions and challenges about decimal numbers. The questions should cover basic concepts, such as identifying the whole part and the decimal part of a decimal number, comparing and ordering decimal numbers, and also basic calculations, such as addition and subtraction of decimal numbers.

  3. Game Regulation: Each group should create a set of clear rules for the game. The rules should include how players should advance on the board, how the questions and challenges will be used, and the final objective of the game.

  4. Creation of Player Pieces and Dice: Each group should create a die, which can be made of cardboard or cardboard, and player pieces or markers. The pieces can be made of clay, bottle caps, or any other material available to the group.

  5. Game Testing and Adjustment: After all materials are ready, the groups should test the game. They should check if the rules are clear, if the questions and challenges are appropriate, and if the game is fun to play.

  6. Game Presentation: Each group should present their game to the class. They should explain the rules, show the board, the cards, and the pieces, and play a full game. During the presentation, other students can ask questions and give suggestions to improve the game.

At the end of the week, each group must submit a copy of the game rules, the drawn board, the question and challenge cards, the die, the pieces, and a brief reflection on the game creation process and what they learned about decimal numbers.

Delivery Format

The delivery will be in the form of a PDF file, with photos or scans of the materials created by the students and a reflection on the game creation process and learning about decimal numbers. Each group must include the names of all members in the delivery. Game presentations will take place during the week, and all students will have the opportunity to play and learn from the games created by their peers.

Hello, little mathematicians! Have you heard about Decimal Numbers? They are a way to represent part of a whole, a quantity smaller than a whole, but larger than a fraction. For example, imagine you have a chocolate bar and want to share it with your friends. If each one receives 1/2 of the bar, what happens to the other half? This is the time to use decimal numbers!

Decimal numbers are represented by a dot, which we call a comma, and which divides the number into two parts: the whole part and the decimal part. The whole part is the numbers before the comma and the decimal part is the numbers after the comma. For example, the number 3.14 is formed by 3 (whole part) and 14 (decimal part).

Importance

Now, you might be thinking: "Why do we need to learn about decimal numbers?" Well, mathematics is all around us and decimal numbers are an important part of it. You use decimal numbers when measuring, for example, the amount of water in a glass, a person's height, the length of a room, the weight of a package, and many other things.

Moreover, decimal numbers are also used in money. Have you used coins of R$ 0.10, R$ 0.50, or R$ 0.99? These are all decimal numbers! So, by learning about decimal numbers, you will be able to better understand how to use and calculate with money.

Applications

Decimal numbers are used in many areas of our lives, beyond mathematics. In science, for example, they are used to represent very small measurements, such as the thickness of a cell, or very large ones, such as the distance between planets. In computer science, decimal numbers are used to represent images, sounds, and even texts.

So, remember, learning about decimal numbers is not only important for mathematics, but also for many other areas of knowledge. They help us better understand the world around us and deal with everyday situations in a more practical and efficient way. Let's embark on this mathematical adventure together!
