You place the tape on the table and see that it is 1 meter long. But, your friend asks: "And in centimeters, how much is it?". At that moment, you need to convert meters to centimeters. This means transforming a measurement from one unit to another. In this case, 1 meter is equal to 100 centimeters. Cool, right?

Detailed Project Description

In this project, each group of students will transform into real "Conversion Explorers"! You will have to create an interactive map with different locations and distances, and then, in your groups, you will convert the distances of each location to meters, centimeters, and millimeters.

Necessary Materials

  1. Cardstock or cardboard to make the map.
  2. Ruler, pencil, and eraser.
  3. Colored pens or colored pencils to decorate the map.
  4. Measuring tape to measure distances.

Detailed Step-by-Step

  1. Group Formation: Students will be divided into groups of 3 to 5 members.

  2. Map Creation: Each group will create a fictional map, which can be of a city, an amusement park, an island, or any place that the imagination allows. The map should contain different locations (for example, a school, a park, a beach, a mountain, a train station, etc.) and their distances from each other.

  3. Measuring Distances: With the help of the measuring tape, students will measure the distances between the locations on the map and write down the values.
