Decimal numbers are present in our lives in many different ways. Whether it's when paying for an item at the grocery store, checking the time, measuring distances, or even calculating a grade average at school. Having a solid understanding of how basic operations, such as adding and subtracting decimals, work is crucial for solving everyday problems.
Mathematics, by its nature, is a very abstract subject. However, when we see its concepts being applied to real life, it becomes much easier to understand and learn. Therefore, our project will focus on carrying out practical activities involving the operations of addition and subtraction with decimals, with examples and scenarios from the real world.
Teamwork will also be one of the focuses of this project. Collaboration is a very valuable skill in today's society, both in school and at work. Learning to work in a team from an early age prepares students for future challenges, helps improve communication, and problem-solving in a group.
Introduction
Decimal numbers are an extension of the numeric system and are used when we need greater precision in measurements. They are particularly useful for representing quantities that are not whole, making them fundamental in various applications in the real world. Learning how to operate with decimal numbers, especially in the operations of addition and subtraction, is an essential skill in mathematics.
Addition and subtraction are some of the first mathematical operations we learn in school. And although the basic rules of these operations are simple and straightforward with whole numbers, they can become a bit more complex when dealing with decimal numbers. However, this added complexity is precisely what makes the study of adding and subtracting decimal numbers so important.
Luckily for us, there are several resources that can facilitate this learning, such as using base-ten blocks and place value charts to visualize the operations. In addition, real-world examples can always make learning more concrete and fun. We will explore all of these concepts and techniques in this project.

"The Math Market: Learning Addition and Subtraction of Decimal Numbers"
Project Objective:
To apply the knowledge of adding and subtracting decimal numbers through a simulation of buying and selling at a market. This project also aims to promote collaboration and enhance socio-emotional skills such as decision-making, negotiation, communication, and time management.
Detailed Description of the Project:
Students will form groups of 3 to 5 members and create a "Market" where products will be bought and sold. Each group will be responsible for establishing their products, calculating the prices (using decimal numbers), and managing the transactions.
The activity will be divided into two main stages: the preparation of the market and the buying and selling operations. Students must record all operations, justifying their choices and explaining their strategies.
Materials Needed:

- Items to simulate the market products (can be drawings, real objects, etc.),
- Chips or pieces of paper to represent money.
Step-by-Step:

Group Formation and Market Planning: Students divide into groups and each group must plan their market. They must list the products they will sell, determine the available quantity of each product, and set the prices in decimal numbers.
