This project will focus on one of the most practical and relevant applications of mathematics: research analysis. Through this project, we will learn how to read, interpret, and apply the results of various research studies.
Research is a vital tool for understanding the world around us. It is through research that we can discover anything from the most popular type of candy in school to understanding global climate trends. However, understanding the numbers and results of a study can be a challenging task. This is where mathematics comes into play, as a tool to uncover the secrets contained in the data.
Introduction
In this project, we will explore four key mathematical concepts in research: descriptive statistics, probability, graphs and tables, and percentages. Descriptive statistics help us understand data in a simple and summarized way, probability allows us to make predictions based on data, graphs and tables help us visualize and better understand the data, and percentages are a vital tool for interpreting results.
Each group of students will be responsible for conducting their own research among the school's students on a topic of their choice. They will then use the mathematical concepts learned to analyze the results and draw conclusions based on the data. This project will not only improve their mathematical skills but also develop their teamwork, communication, and critical thinking skills.
Furthermore, the Portuguese language will be a fundamental discipline in this project, as students will need to compose a written report, which involves writing, composition, and text interpretation skills. They should clearly present their findings, use the correct vocabulary, and format their report appropriately.

Each group of students will choose a topic of interest - which can range from food preferences to hobbies - and create their own survey to be conducted at school. From the collected data, they must analyze and interpret the results using mathematical concepts such as percentage, descriptive statistics, probability, and graphs and tables. In the end, students must create a detailed report on the research conducted, with their observations, analysis, and conclusions.
