Mathematics is a discipline of utmost importance, after all, it is present in several situations of our daily lives. Within this wonderful science, there is a very functional and useful area: Statistics. It is the art of learning from data, that is, it is the science that allows us to collect, organize, describe, analyze, and present data. Its relevance is indisputable, as it enables the conduct of research, predictions, decision-making, among others. And it is in this rich context that our project 'Research 1' is inserted.

In this project, you will be introduced to this incredible statistical world in a fun and intriguing way, developing valuable skills in reading and interpreting research, while improving your ability to work in a team.

Introduction

Our adventure begins with the concept of statistical research. Statistical research can take many forms, but it always involves data collection. Imagine that we need to know what is the favorite ice cream flavor of the students in our school. How would we find that out? One way would be to conduct a survey! We would ask each student what their favorite flavor is and then record the answers. This is a simple example of how a survey is conducted.

The second step would be data organization. This step involves categorizing our data to facilitate analysis. In the case of our example, we could organize the data by ice cream flavors and count how many times each flavor was mentioned.

Finally, data analysis, in which we must interpret the results of our research. Using our example, we would analyze the data to see which ice cream flavor was the most mentioned and thus, discover the students' favorite flavor!

Practical Activity

Activity Title: Investigating the Playground

Project Objective:

The objective of this project is for students to develop a statistical research on something related to the playground. This can be a survey about the most popular game during recess, the favorite snack, or any other question that is of interest to the group.

Detailed Project Description:

Students, in groups of 3 to 5, will conduct a survey to collect data during recess. They will have to choose a research theme, create a questionnaire, collect data, organize, and analyze the collected information.

Necessary Materials:

1. Paper
2. Pens
3. Notepad or computer for data recording

Detailed Step-by-Step for Activity Execution:

1. Group Formation and Idea Brainstorming: Students should form groups of 3 to 5 members and brainstorm to choose a theme to be researched during recess.

2. Questionnaire Creation: The group should create a questionnaire to collect the necessary information for the research. The questionnaire should be simple and direct, with questions that can be answered quickly.

3. Data Collection: During recess, students should apply the questionnaire to the students. They should record the answers on a notepad or computer.

4. Data Organization: After collection, students should organize the collected data. They must classify the collected information and count the answers.

5. Data Analysis: With the organized data, students should analyze it to conclude the information answered by the research.

The estimated time for the activity is 2 to 4 hours per student, including questionnaire preparation, data collection, data organization, and data analysis.

Project Delivery:

The final product of the project will be a written report that will address the four main topics indicated above. The report should be written as follows:

1. Introduction: The student must contextualize the research theme, its relevance and application in the real world, and the project's objective.

2. Development: The student must explain the theory behind statistical research, describe the activity in detail, indicate the methodology used for data collection and organization, and finally, present and discuss the results obtained.

3. Conclusion: The student must conclude the project by reiterating its main points, explaining the learnings obtained, and the conclusions drawn from the project.

4. Bibliography: The student must indicate the sources they relied on to work on the project such as books, web pages, videos, etc.

The deadline for report submission will be one week after data collection. The report must be submitted to the teacher in document format, whether handwritten or typed.
