Have you heard of polygons? They are closed flat shapes with straight sides. Triangles, squares, and rectangles are examples of polygons. And what about circles, ellipses, and parallelograms? Practical Activity: 'The Shape Hunt'
Project Objective
The objective of this project is for students to familiarize themselves with different shapes and their classifications through a playful and practical activity. Additionally, the project aims to develop skills in teamwork, communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
Project Description
Students, divided into groups of 3 to 5, will be challenged to carry out a 'Shape Hunt' at school and in their homes. Each group will have to identify, name, and classify as many shapes as possible. To do this, they will create an illustrated shape catalog.

Group Formation: Divide the class into groups of 3 to 5 students.

Introduction and Planning: Explain the concept of 'Shape Hunt' and how they will carry out the activity. Each group should plan how they will conduct the hunt, defining the locations they will visit (school and home, for example) and how they will record the shapes found.

Carrying out the Hunt: The groups must visit the defined locations and look for objects, drawings, symbols, and anything that has shapes. Each time they find a shape, they should write down the name and make a drawing in the catalog.

Shape Classification: After the hunt, students must classify the shapes found into groups. They can use the characteristics of the shapes (number of sides, whether they are curved or straight, whether they are closed or open, etc.) to make the classifications.

Creating the Catalog: Using A4 paper or cardboard, students will create the illustrated shape catalog. Each page of the catalog should be dedicated to a group of shapes (e.g., one page for circles, another for squares, etc.). They should draw the shapes found during the hunt, write the name of each one, and the classification they gave.

Catalog Presentation: Each group, at the end of the project, must present their catalog to the class. They should explain the process of the shape hunt, the classifications they made, and the characteristics of each shape.
Delivery Format
The illustrated shape catalog, created by the groups, will be the final product of the project. Students must submit it to the teacher by the agreed date. In addition, each group will make a presentation to the class, sharing the experiences and learnings acquired during the project.
